Abstract: A semiconductor integrated circuit includes a first clock input and a second clock input to receive elements of a differential clock signal. Each clock signal element has a logic state. The circuit generates an output activation signal that depends on the states of the differential clock input signals. Operation of the circuit does not require detection of a frequency of the differential clock signal.
Abstract: A semiconductor device includes an external resistor for establishing a delay of a signal relative to another signal in the device. The resistor may be external to a buffer, such as a zero-delay buffer, that receives an input signal generates one or more output signals that relate to the input signal. The delay may be introduced either before or after the buffer.

Abstract: A method and apparatus provide for monitoring an auto-negotiation process. A number of intermediate steps in the auto-negotiation process are monitored. A plurality of codes are successively stored in a progress memory to indicate a degree of completion of the auto-negotiation process.
Abstract: A voltage controlled oscillator having substantial frequency dependence on a parallel RC timing element including a voltage-variable resistance element, such as a MOSFET biased in the triode region. One terminal of the timing element can be connected to ground. The voltage used to tune the timing element, to lock the voltage controlled oscillator to a reference frequency can be used to control similar timing elements integrated upon the same circuit, for example a continuous-time filter in an ethernet transceiver. The oscillator frequency is substantially independent of variations in supply voltage.
Abstract: An LED driver pin which can be used for programming a memory element in a first mode, and can be used for driving the LED in a second mode is provided. The invention includes the pin and the LED driver connected to the pin, and additionally provides an input buffer for receiving the programmable input signal. The programmable memory element is connected to the input buffer, and a control circuit is provided for enabling the input of a voltage on the pin to the programmable memory element during the first mode, and enabling the LED driver to function during a second mode.
