Patent number: 8549911Abstract: A liquid level sensor employs a set of axially displaced magnetic sensing switches and a magnet on a float that may rise and fall on liquid level to activate and deactivate the switches. The switches and magnet are configured so that movement of the magnetic float activates a new switch before deactivation of an adjacent previously activated switch. An electronic circuit provides a signal based on the uppermost activated switch to provide a signal that is monotonic with liquid level. The design may be readily implemented using reed switches and a resistive ladder.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2009Date of Patent: October 8, 2013Assignee: Ilinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey P Rudd, James M Pellegrini, Brian J Bonenfant

Publication number: 20120097765Abstract: The present technique provides a system and method for improving atomization in a spray coating device. An exemplary spray coating device of the present technique has a fine finish tip with an atomization section comprising a first fluid impingement orifice, i.e., a pre-orifice, angled toward an expansion chamber and a subsequent second fluid impingement orifice. The fine finish tip is provided as a unitary assembly that may be applied to a spray gun and that provides a fixed relationship between the pre-orifice, the expansion chamber, and the second orifice, which results in refined spray characteristics, such as uniform particle distribution and uniform fan pattern shapes.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2010Publication date: April 26, 2012Applicant: Ilinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Mitchell M. Patent number: 7122147Abstract: An emergency cutting torch system adapted to be stored within a compartment of a rescue vehicle. The emergency cutting torch system may comprise a wheeled cart adapted to maintain a first gas storage tank and a second gas storage tank to the wheeled cart in all orientations of the wheeled cart. The emergency cutting torch system may comprise a rotateable lifting member adapted to be rotate outward to extend from the wheeled cart to facilitate engagement with a hook, or other lifting member, for lifting the emergency cutting torch system. The lifting member may rotate to a stowed position to reduce the outer dimensions of the emergency cutting torch system. The emergency cutting torch system may comprise a quick-release system to enable a hose assembly wound on a cart be removed quickly without having to unwind the hose assembly from the cart.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2003Date of Patent: October 17, 2006Assignee: Ilinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Robert W. Patent number: 6973760Abstract: A machine for packaging multiple containers wherein a flexible carrier stock is fed across a jaw drum. A plurality of containers are also moved through the machine whereby the carrier is subsequently positioned over the plurality of containers so that flexible carrier stock engages with one of the containers to form a package. The machine is adjustable to accommodate a range of container heights and sizes, carrier configurations and/or package sizes. In addition, movement of the various components of the machine is coordinated using a drive system and a controller.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2003Date of Patent: December 13, 2005Assignee: Ilinois Tool Works, Inc.Inventor: Kevin Moore

Patent number: 6922965Abstract: The present technique relates to a floor system that includes panels designed to be joined to one another, with an adhesive coating and a sealant at each joint to facilitate assembly. The panels include mechanically interlocking portions that mate when the system is installed. Disposed on the interlocking portions is a coating adapted to cohesively bond upon contact with itself under ambient conditions and without external activation. The sealant protects the joint and prevents the ingress of moisture following installation. Advantageously, the cohesive bonding of the coating is delayed such that the bonding does not obstruct the installation of the floor panel.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2003Date of Patent: August 2, 2005Assignee: Ilinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Guy Rosenthal, Jamie Heisserer, Victoria L. Patent number: 6786379Abstract: A fastener driving tool is disclosed having a self contained pre-pressurized pneumatic power source. Operator actuation of a trigger mechanism causes a pressurized medium supplied by the self contained pre-pressurized power source to flow through a valve and to propel a piston connected to a driver blade towards a nosepiece assembly end of the tool. The flow of the pressurized medium through the valve further recoils a spring-biased activating bolt which resets the trigger mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2002Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Assignee: Ilinois Tool Works Inc.Inventor: Marc Largo

Patent number: 5964353Abstract: Carrier tape (12) is disclosed which absorbs kinetic energy and protects the leads (34, 34') of electronic circuit components (32) from bending or being otherwise damaged in an industry drop test. The components (32) are supported in pockets (22) by platforms (40) which are free of ridges extending above the bottoms of the components (32). The free ends of the leads (34) simultaneously engage ramp portions (42) of the pocket sidewalls (24) which are inclined upwardly and outwardly from the pocket bottoms (26) to center the components (32) in the pockets (22). The pockets (22) are of a size to sandwich the components (32) against the platforms (40) when the carrier tape (12) is in a stacked arrangement such as by being wound on a reel (58). The pocket bottoms (26) include undercuts (54) allowing the pocket bottoms (26) in an upper layer to sandwich two different components (32) in two circumferentially adjacent pockets (22) of the lower layer.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1997Date of Patent: October 12, 1999Assignee: Ilinois Tool Works Inc.Inventor: Robert N.
