Abstract: A device for encapsulating plastic waste such as plastic syringes with attached needles, lancets or blood test strips, having a melt chamber to receive the waste, means to elevate the temperature within the melt chamber, a reciprocating compaction head to compact the melted waste to form a plastic slug with the needles encapsulated within the slug, where the compaction head has a shoulder whereby the slug becomes attached to the compaction head when hardened. The hardened slug is then removed from the melt chamber during the retraction of the compaction head. Preferably, an ejection cam slides the plastic slug partially off the compaction head for easy removal.
Abstract: A device for the sterilization and encapsulation of bio-hazardous materials, especially including needles and syringes, which provides a sealable container to receive the materials and a rotating carousel to successively position the container for processing, a heat device to raise the temperature within the container to sterilize the contents and melt any plastic material, a compactor to crush the container into a smaller volume, and an ejector to remove the compacted container from the carousel.
Abstract: A syringe encapsulation device having a melt chamber heated by forced hot air to sufficient temperature to melt the plastic bodies of the syringes, where the melt chamber is coaxially mounted onto a rotating shaft and rotated when the plastic is in the molten state such that the molten plastic is centrifugally driven to the outer periphery of the melt chamber to safely encapsulate the needles once the molten plastic has hardened.
Abstract: A device for the encapsulation of syringes and other hazardous plastic waste having needles or other sharp elements, the device having a melt chamber with a reciprocating compaction head, the weight of the compaction head providing the force to conform molten plastic into a puck covering the needle points. Flow release apertures allow for escape of gases and provide an overflow conduit for excess molten plastic. The puck adheres to the compaction head and is ejected back into the melt chamber for removal and disposal.
