Abstract: An intensifier pump system includes a supply pump for delivering fluid products at an intermediate pressure. The products are delivered to one or more intensifier pumps that take advantage of hydraulic intensification to expel the product at high pressures to assure continuous product deployment in various systems. After an extension cycle in one of the intensifier pumps, product is delivered from the supply pump at a pressure sufficient to retract the intensifier pump and fill the chamber with fluid.

  • Patent number: 6513052
Abstract: A method and system for presenting targeted advertising during an Internet-based connection, such as a web-based data backup session in which data is communicated from a user computer to a remote storage area for archival via the Internet. According to the invention, the user computer is communicatively coupled to the server via a computer network and an asset profile for the computer is generated. The asset profile identifies the software applications that are currently loaded on the computer and the current hardware configuration for the computer including a processor type and connected hardware devices. In addition, the asset profile contains usage information such as a frequency of use for the various software applications. As a function of the uploaded asset profile, advertisements are selected from an advertisement database and are communicated to the computer for display to the user.

  • Publication number: 20030018907
Abstract: In general, the invention allows for content protection of digital data by intentionally introducing errors introduced within error correction information during the production or generation of an original digital medium, or any authorized copy thereof The errors may be introduced within error correction information corresponding to the stored content, such as a software application, audio or video file, or within a stored “access key” used to access the content. The errors may be introduced, for example, at the time of manufacturing of the medium or when making an authorized copy of digital data. When authenticating digital media, the erroneous error correction information is disregarded and corresponding “raw” uncorrected data is used for authentication purposes.

Abstract: Backup of network data is facilitated by using a native file sharing protocol to access shared data from a network device. Using a native file sharing protocol allows the data to be backed up from the network device without installing client software on the network device and without significantly modifying the network device. As a result, backup capabilities are available to a wide variety of network devices, including, for example, NAS and other devices that are not amenable to installation of client software.

  • Patent number: 6510131
Abstract: A data storage disk cartridge including a shutter assembly with a stress relief mechanism. The disk cartridge includes a housing assembly having an opening for accessing a disk. A molded shutter assembly is operably connected to the housing assembly. The molded shutter assembly is moveable between a closed position across the opening and an open position allowing access to the disk by a disk drive. The molded shutter assembly includes a first sidewall, a second sidewall, and an endwall extending between the first sidewall and the second sidewall. A first joint is defined by the junction of the first sidewall and the endwall. A stress relief mechanism is positioned at the first joint whereby the first sidewall is maintained substantially parallel to the second sidewall after removal from a molding process die assembly.

  • Publication number: 20030011087
Abstract: The invention is directed towards techniques for creating optical data storage disks. In one embodiment, the invention provides a simultaneous two-sided rolling bead process. For example, a method may include positioning a first bead of photopolymer for distribution between a bottom stamper and a substrate, and positioning a second bead of photopolymer for distribution between a top stamper and the substrate. The method may also include passing a roller over the top stamper to distribute the beads of photopolymer, curing the photopolymer, and removing the substrate from the stampers. The simultaneous two-sided rolling bead process can be repeated on the same medium to create a two-sided dual-layer data storage medium or a two-sided multi-layer data storage medium.

  • Publication number: 20020196325
Abstract: The invention is directed to compensating for imaging aberrations that result from repeated passes by an imaging laser array. The techniques described herein reduce the undesirable aberrations. In general, the techniques provide for printing a first line of image data and a set of contiguous lines as a function of the image data and a first mask. On a subsequent pass, these lines are overlapped. The line that overlaps the first line prints the image data again, but masked. The lines that overlap the contiguous lines print the image data normally.

  • Patent number: 6491970
Abstract: A method is provided for coating one or more fluid layers on a substrate to form magnetic recording media such as magnetic tape and diskettes. The method takes advantage of fluid coating formulations having a particular rheology that enables the coating of one or more magnetic layers with reduced thicknesses while achieving increased coating speeds. With proper rheology, one or more layers can be coated on a substrate traveling at increased speeds while maintaining desired coating thicknesses.

  • Patent number: 6493174
Abstract: Optical servo systems and magnetic data storage tape for use with magnetic data storage drives. The servo system utilizes a head mechanism that includes an optical head and a magnetic head. The optical head is adapted to detect a series of optical indicator marks located on a servo track on the tape. The magnetic head is adapted to detect one or a series of magnetic reference indicator marks located on a corresponding data track. The magnetic reference indicator marks are, in one embodiment, spaced periodically along the length of the tape. The magnetic reference indicator marks allow recalibration of the optical servo system by permitting the determination of any dimensional offset between the optical head and the magnetic head attributable to manufacturing tolerances or environmental factors. In one embodiment, a separate temperature sensor may be used to determine thermal changes in and around the head mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20020174198
Abstract: Automatic registration of diverse device types with management software is facilitated by creating the most specific device facade possible based on available information. Based on this information, a generic registration module delegates creation of the device facade to a registration module that is more specific to the particular device, if one is available. If no more specific registration module is available, the generic registration module creates the facade itself.

  • Publication number: 20020169805
Abstract: Improved color image display accuracy can be achieved across a computer network by obtaining information characterizing the color response of display devices associated with a client residing on the computer network, and using the information to modify color images delivered to the client. Further improvements can be obtained by supervision of images during the upload process. In particular, in a system in which color-corrected images are provided from a web server to clients residing on a network, the invention promotes greater accuracy in the original images by monitoring and auditing the preparation of input images by color technicians. In one embodiment, a technician responsible for adjustment for each image is identified, and an upload is permitted if the technician satisfies a color adjustment skill criterion.

  • Publication number: 20020166913
Abstract: A data storage tape cartridge including a housing, a tape reel assembly, a brake assembly, a centering device, and a storage tape. The tape reel assembly includes a hub, opposing top and bottom flanges, and drive teeth. The drive teeth extend in an axial fashion relative to the hub and are provided for engagement by a tape drive chuck. The centering device is provided to support the tape reel assembly in a centered position relative to the tape reel opening in the locked state. The centering device includes a rib and a corresponding groove. The rib is formed by one of the bottom flange and the base, whereas the groove is formed by another of the bottom flange and the base. The groove is configured to selectively receive the rib, thereby supporting the tape reel assembly in the center position. The centering device prevents the tape reel assembly from laterally shifting relative to the tape reel opening when the data storage tape cartridge is vertically oriented.

  • Publication number: 20020167760
Abstract: A data storage tape cartridge including a housing, a tape reel assembly, a brake body, a spring, and a storage tape. The tape reel assembly includes a hub, opposing top and bottom flange components, brake teeth, and an inner surface. The inner surface is formed by the tape reel assembly and defines an engagement section apart from the brake teeth. The brake body includes a stem, a head, a toothed section, and a centering feature. The centering feature extends radially outwardly from the head and forms a circumferential edge that is radially spaced from the toothed section. A spring is positioned about a post formed by the cover to bias the brake body to a locked state. In the locked state, the toothed section engages the brake teeth to prevent rotation of the tape reel assembly. Interaction between the circumferential edge and the engagement section limits lateral shifting of the tape reel assembly relative to the tape reel opening when the data storage tape cartridge is vertically oriented.
