Patent number: 7978433Abstract: When a medium casing is properly inserted, a first pair of projections and a second pair of projections are passed through between a first bottom surface and a second bottom surface of a chassis in the moving direction and are thus prevented from coming into contact with the first and second bottom surfaces, thereby allowing for smooth insertion of the medium casing. In contrast, when the medium casing is inserted improperly from its wrong end, one of the projections on the lower surface of the medium casing comes into abutment with the second bottom surface of the chassis near the opening. Accordingly, an improperly inserted medium casing can be prevented from being inserted any further at an early stage of the insertion process.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2008Date of Patent: July 12, 2011Assignees: Alps Electric Co., Ltd., Imation CorporationInventors: Kazutoshi Miura, Kiyoyuki Ito

Publication number: 20090086371Abstract: When a medium casing is moved deep into a device, a reference guide pin with a greater length provided in a driving-device body is first inserted into a first positioning hole of the medium casing and a subsidiary guide pin is subsequently inserted into a second positioning hole. This implies that the medium casing is guided deep into the device on the basis of the reference guide pin having a greater diameter. Therefore, even when the medium casing is inserted in a displaced state in a direction orthogonal to the insertion direction, such displacement can be compensated for gradually with the movement of the medium casing. This ensures proper connection between a plurality of external terminals of the medium casing and a plurality of connector pins of the driving-device body.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2008Publication date: April 2, 2009Applicants: ALPS ELECTRIC CO., LTD., IMATION CORPORATIONInventors: Kazutoshi MIURA, Kiyoyuki ITO

Patent number: 6522490Abstract: A magnetic servo write head incorporates timing pattern read and write heads that are non-symmetrically slanted relative to an adjacent servo write head to improve timing pattern detection for a timing pattern written at an edge of a magnetic storage media. The slanted orientation of the timing write and read heads provides optimized timing pattern location and track width on a magnetic tape, while also allowing a sufficient number of windings to be used on an associated coil to improve overall signal-to-noise ratio.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1999Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Assignees: Storage Technology Corporation, Imation CorporationInventors: James C. Patent number: 5972589Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a silver halide photographic emulsion comprising a nucleation step, a growing step and a washing step, wherein a reduction sensitization is performed between said growing step and said washing step in the presence of a sulfuring agent and a stabilizer. According to a preferred embodiment a fine grain silver halide emulsion is added either between the addition of stabilizer and the addition of sulfuring agent or between the addition of sulfuring agent and the start of reduction sensitization or both.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1997Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Assignee: Imation CorporationInventors: Jouri Breslav, Maria Stella Garozzo
