Abstract: Process for the preparation of esters of m-phenoxybenzyl alcohol and its .alpha.-cyano and .alpha.-ethinyl derivatives with carboxylic acids containing at least 6 carbon atoms by heating together a methyl or ethyl ester of the carboxylic acid, an ester of m-phenoxyphenyl alcohol or its .alpha.-cyano or .alpha.-ethinyl derivative with an acid of the formula R.CO.sub.2 H wherein R is an alkyl group containing not more than 3 carbon atoms, and tetramethyl or tetraethyl titanate at a temperature such that the methyl or ethyl ester of the acid of formula R.CO.sub.2 H is removed by distillation as it is formed.

Abstract: An assembly for an electrolytic cell comprising a base plate of an electrically conductive metal which is unattacked by the electrolyte to be used in the cell, e.g. titanium, a plurality of anodes or anode support members mounted on and attached in electrical contact with one surface of the base plate, and an electrical conductor in the form of a metallic sheet electrically conductively bonded to the other surface of the base plate, e.g. a sheet of iron or steel, the bonding having been achieved by placing a metallic inter layer between the base plate and the conductor sheet, heating the inter layer to a temperature of at least 427.degree. and to a temperature at which the inter layer is molten, and applying elevated pressure to the base plate and to the conductor sheet.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to .omega.-aryl substituted .omega.-nor prostaglandin analogues bearing an oxygenated function at C-10, such as a hydroxy radical, or a 9,10- or 10,11-epoxide. A typical compound is 16-(3-chlorophenoxy)-9.alpha.,10.beta.,11.alpha.,15.alpha.-tetrahydroxy-17 ,18,19,20-tetranor-5-cis,13-trans-prostadienoic acid. Also disclosed are chemical processes for the manufacture of said compounds, pharmaceutical and veterinary compositions containing said compounds, and a method of achieving luteolysis in mammals by the use of such compounds.

Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions, containing a 4,4'-dihydroxy-3,3'-triphenylmethanedicarboxylic acid (or an oxidized derivative) as active ingredient, are described and are prepared conventionally in a form suitable for topical administration, e.g., ointment. The compositions are useful for the treatment of inflammatory diseases and inflammatory conditions of the skin. Many of the active ingredients are novel compounds. A representative novel active ingredient is 4"-cyano-4,4'-dihydroxy-5,5'-dimethyl-3,3'-triphenylmethanedicarboxylic acid.
Abstract: Process for the separation of a polyetherketone from the reaction product resulting from the nucleophilic polycondensation of (i) at least one alkali metal bisphenate with at least one dihalo compound, and/or (ii) at least one alkali metal halophenate, in an aromatic sulphone solvent of formula ##STR1## in which Y is a direct link, oxygen, or a pair of hydrogen atoms, and Z and Z' are hydrogen atoms or phenyl groups, comprising finely dividing the solidified reaction product, leaching out alkali metal halide with water and then heating the resultant finely divided material to a temperature of at least 200.degree. C but below its melting point under a vacuum to remove the water and aromatic sulphone by distillation.
Abstract: A process for producing a thermoformable acrylic sheet comprising polymerizing an acrylic monomer in the presence of 0.02 - 3.0% by weight of a cross-linking agent, the reaction conditions being such that the fully polymerized sheet would have a reduced viscosity of 1.5 - 4.0 if cross-linking agent were absent.
