  • Patent number: 4813406
Abstract: A splint device for the immobilization of a preselected portion of the body, such as a digital member. The splint device preferably comprises a splint means comprising a ring-like base portion adapted to fit snugly around a digit in proximity to its proximal end. Extending from the base portion there are provided a plurality of essentially rigid elongated support members which are spaced apart around the base portion so as to immobilize the contained digit, preferably on more than one of its sides, each of the support members terminating at a free end which is in the vicinity of, or beyond the distal end, of the digit. The ring-like base portion is preferably expandable. The splint device may also comprise restraining means which may be positioned around the support member for retaining the support members adjacent the digital member, and an end cap which may be positioned on the free ends of the support members.

  • Patent number: 4286389
Abstract: Apparatus for use in lyophilizing a substance in a container and sealing the substance within the container after lyophilization. The apparatus includes an upper portion positionable about a resilient stopper in frictional engagement therewith, and a structure supporting the upper portion. The supporting structure is positionable on the open end of the container to space the upper portion and the stopper axially therefrom and define at least one fluid path communicating with the interior of the container. The upper portion and the supporting means may define an axial passageway for conducting the stopper from the initial position to a sealing position at least partially within the open end of the container upon application of an axial force to the stopper.

  • Patent number: 4253501
Abstract: A transfer device for withdrawal of aliquots from a container of bulk solution is provided with a body having a tapered chamber, a first passage venting the smaller end of the chamber to the surrounding air, a second passage communicating at one end with the larger end of the chamber, and a third passage having one end for withdrawal of fluid therefrom. A tapered valve element is received within the chamber for movement between first and second conditions in response to changes in the presence differential between the first and second passages. The first condition provides a fluid seal between the first and second passages by engagement of the valve element with the walls of the chamber for pressures within the second passage greater than that within the first passage, and the second condition provides a fluid path from the first passage to the second passage for pressures within the second passage somewhat less than that within the first passage.

  • Patent number: 3945382
Abstract: A device for the introduction of liquid medication into a flexible bag for the administration of intravenous solutions. The device comprises an elongated generally cylindrical hollow tubular member having an open end and a closed end, a boss extending from the closed end carried by the boss a cannula having a sharpened outer end, and a rigid sheath surrounding the cannula and carried by the boss. The sheath serves to limit the advancement of the cannula into an orifice having a diameter greater than that of said cannula. A thrust portion is provided within the tubular member and a fluid passage extends longitudinally through the center of the thrust portion. The lower end of the fluid passage communicates with the upper end of the cannula. A cylindrical vial having a resilient stopper in its open end seals on the inside walls of the vial.
