Abstract: Devices, methods and programmed instructions useful for transferring one or more telephony functions associated with a wireless handheld telephony device to a second telephony device are disclosed. The wireless handheld telephony device provides information useful in transferring the one or more telephony functions to the second telephony device.
Abstract: An apparatus, and an associated method, facilitates security at a wireless device, such as a wireless device comprising a mobile computing platform. A security decision engine is provided that monitors for an event necessitating a security decision. When a security decision is required, request is made of a knowledge fetcher, provided by a trusted third-party, installed at the wireless device for the security decision. The knowledge fetcher obtains the security decision, such as by obtaining the security decision from a remote, trusted third-party server, and provides the security decision to the decision engine. Use is made of the security decision pursuant to a setting for which the security decision is needed.

Abstract: A handheld communication device to communicate with a remote universal serial bus (USB) host controller via an integrated power and data port is provided. The device includes a microprocessor communicating with a power management integrated circuit (IC), wherein said microprocessor requires greater than 100 mA to be enumerated with the USB host controller. The device includes a USB microcontroller communicating with the USB host controller via a multiplexer and integrated power and data port, wherein the USB microcontroller requires less than 100 mA to be enumerated with the USB host controller, and wherein if a current available from the rechargeable battery is below a specified threshold required to power up the microprocessor, then the USB microcontroller performs USB enumeration with the USB host controller.

Abstract: A BOOKMARK element is proposed to be included within the HEAD element of a markup language document. Such a BOOKMARK element is intended to provide a default bookmark label that is to be associated with a Universal Resource Identifier (URI) of a markup language document when storing the URI of the markup language document as a bookmark or favorite. A short, to-the-point label suggested by an author of the markup language document may be seen as beneficial particularly to users of mobile communication devices. Such a suggested label may also greatly improve the user experience of desktop-based browsers.
Abstract: A system and method for converting a schema based synchronous service to a schema based asynchronous service. The asynchronous service for implementing on a server configured for communication with a respective client over a network. The system and method comprising a subscription module for identifying a port type with each notification method added to a description of the synchronous service and for associating a subscription operation with the identified port type. The system and method can also include an artifact module for generating at least one conversion artifact related to the added notification method, the conversion artifact configured for use by a developer to assist in developing the supporting clients of the asynchronous service as well as the asynchronous service itself. The system and method can also include an integration module for combining the notification methods and subscription operations and conversion artifacts to produce a description of the asynchronous service.

Abstract: A mobile wireless communications device may include a housing and a multi-frequency band antenna carried within the housing. The multi-frequency band antenna may include a main loop conductor having a gap therein defining first and second ends of the main loop conductor, a first branch conductor having a first end connected adjacent the first end of the main loop conductor and having a second end defining a first feed point, and a second branch conductor having a first end connected adjacent the second end of the main loop conductor and a second end defining a second feed point. A third branch conductor has a first portion within the main loop conductor, and a second portion connected to the second feed point. A tuning branch conductor may have a first end connected to the main loop conductor between the respective first ends of the first and second branches.

Abstract: In a mobile communication device, a scanning operation is performed with use of a wireless transceiver to identify one or more available wireless communication networks in a given geographic area. Each time the scanning operation fails to result in identifying a wireless network to be available for connection with the communication device, the scanning operation is repeated after delaying for a next scanning delay period of a plurality of consecutively-increasing scanning delay periods n=[n1, n2, . . . , M], wherein M is set as an upper limit. In response to identifying a first predetermined battery condition of the communication device, a first new upper limit N is added to the plurality of consecutively-increasing scanning delay periods n=[n1, n2, . . . , M, N], wherein N is the first new upper limit such that N>M.
Abstract: The invention is directed at a headset for a mobile communication device having a multi-button control and is implemented with a standard headset jack. The multi-button control is decoded by a microprocessor after which an encoded signal is then transmitted from the processor to the handset. In this manner, by using the standard jack, no additional hardware is required on the handset.

Abstract: A handheld wireless communication device cradleable by an operator during text entry. A display, key field and trackball navigation tool are located on a front face of the device. Alphanumeric input keys include several alphabetic keys with letters arranged in a traditional (QWERTY), but non-ITU Standard E.161 telephone letter layout. A menu key is positioned adjacent to the trackball navigation tool and the at least one key has an arcuate-shaped edge conformance fitting to an arcuate-shaped boundary about the trackball navigation tool. A rotatable ring is provided that surrounds the trackball of the trackball navigation tool. A microprocessor is configured to receive operator commands from the various inputs.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for performing a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) initialization procedure are described. A terminal profile having a most recent release version format is communicated to a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM). An error from the SIM is detected in response to sending the most recent release version format of the terminal profile, since the SIM is incompatible with this most recent release version. Subsequently, a terminal profile having a previous release version format is communicated to the SIM based on detecting the error from the SIM. This may be repeated further until compatibility between the mobile communication device and the SIM is established.
Abstract: A method, devices and system having out of office based presence are provided. In accordance with one embodiment, there is provided a method of sharing presence information, comprising: receiving input to enable an out of office utility for a first email account; notifying a messaging server managing the first email account that the out of office utility has been enabled; and providing to one or more recipients a presence status data packet indicating a presence status of “out of office” for a user associated with the first email account in response the enabling of the out of office utility.
Abstract: In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for battery capacity estimation. A profile table may be used that relates a plurality of battery profile values with a plurality of operating parameter values. The profile table may be accessed to translate one or more measured operating parameters into one or more corresponding battery profile values. One or more of the battery profile values may be adjusted by a correction factor to generate a corrected battery profile value. The available capacity of the battery may be calculated using the corrected battery profile value. The correction factor may then be automatically calibrated by using an estimated battery profile value calculated from the one or more measured operating parameter.
