Abstract: A portable audio device having reduced sensitivity to RF interference over a predetermined frequency range from an adjacent mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, a battery carried thereby, a recharging power input connected to the battery, a digital signal input, and an audio analog signal output. A digital-to-analog converter (DAC) may be carried by the portable housing and powered by the battery for converting a selected digital audio file from a memory into an analog audio signal. An audio analog amplifier may be connected between the DAC and the audio analog signal output. A first RF filter(s) may be connected to the recharging power input, and a second RF filter(s) may be connected to the audio analog signal output, both for reducing RF interference over the predetermined frequency range from the adjacent mobile wireless communications device.

Abstract: A method of rendering a representation of a webpage on a display at a portable electronic device includes identifying at least one block of the webpage having a variable width, setting the variable width to an assigned width based on an available display width, laying out the webpage using the assigned width set for the block of the webpage having the variable width, and rendering the webpage on the display of the portable electronic device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for selecting a certificate for use in securing a message to be transmitted from a computing device is described herein. A set of certificates is determined and the certificates are ranked based on one or more predetermined ranking criteria. At least the highest ranking certificate is displayed, and a certificate is selected for securing the message.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a first display module is provided, the first display module associated with a client device in communication with a server enabled to generate data for display on a second display module having a screen size larger than a screen size of the first display module, the data having an active area. Data is received at the client device. The first display module is controlled to generate a representation of a first portion of the data including the active area, the representation of the first portion representative of a peephole superimposed on the second display module, the peephole less than or equal to a size of a screen of the first display module. Input indicative that the peephole is to be shifted to an edge of the active area is received. The first display module is controlled to generate a representation of a second portion of the data including the edge, such that the peephole is shifted to the edge of the active area.

Abstract: Embodiments of a system and method for preserving data records of a system comprising a mobile electronic device and a remote log storage configured to store data records corresponding to auditable events. The mobile electronic device comprises memory storage configured to store user data and the user data includes a data log comprising data records corresponding to auditable events. As well, the mobile electronic device is operatively coupleable to the remote log storage. The method comprises receiving a command to delete the user data; determining any data records in the data log which have not been uploaded to the remote log storage; storing any determined data records in the remote log storage; and deleting the user data.

Abstract: A method of ensuring that data sent to a handheld wireless communications device is written to non-volatile memory is disclosed. In a device, where data is initially written to a first volatile memory and then written to a second volatile memory before being written from the second volatile memory to a non-volatile memory, software code is implemented that causes the writing of the data to non-volatile memory concurrently with the writing of the data to the second volatile memory. The software code may incorporate operating system commands (such as Windows OS).

Abstract: Systems and methods for establishing a data connection between a mobile device and a peripheral. The mobile device is configured to determine whether to handle user approval of the data connection between the mobile device and the peripheral. Through the mobile device, an input mechanism is provided for the user to provide input. The input is used in determining whether to approve the data connection between the mobile device and the peripheral.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a user with the ability to enter and validate contact addresses when composing a message on a mobile device. The user may access at least one of a local contact address data store and a remote contact address data store when entering and validating contact addresses.

Abstract: A system and method of selecting a character for display in a communication device having a display and a reduced-key keyboard is provided. One of the plurality of keys on the reduced-key keyboard is selected and a default letter associated with the selected key is displayed. A backspace key is selected to display a cursor in the position of the character on the display. The key associated with the default character is selected again and an alternate character associated with the selected key is displayed in place of the default letter.

The hybrid access terminal is operable to communicate pursuant to an EVDO communication session and to a PPP communication session. The opening and closing of the communication sessions are independent of one another. Opening of one session does not require opening of another of the sessions. And, closing of one of the sessions does not require closing of the other of the sessions.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for pre-processing encrypted and/or signed messages at a host system before the message is transmitted to a wireless mobile communication device. The message is received at the host system from a message sender. There is a determination as to whether any of the message receivers has a corresponding wireless mobile communication device. For each message receiver that has a corresponding wireless mobile communication device: the message is processed so as to modify the message with respect to encryption and/or authentication aspect. The processed message is transmitted to a wireless mobile communication device that corresponds to the first message receiver. The system and method may include post-processing messages sent from a wireless mobile communications device to a remote system. Authentication and/or encryption message processing is performed upon the message. The processed message may then be sent through the remote system to one or more receivers.
