Abstract: A portal application is provided that can be used on a mobile device to display relevant advertising content to the user at convenient times. The portal application can utilize a portal browser that is launched when appropriate, which displays the advertising content in an interactive way and enables the user to follow up with tasks requiring a data connection that is currently unavailable, by keeping track of a user queue. The advertising content may be filtered from a base of advertising content provided by the advertising content providers in advanced and is pre-fetched and stored in an advertising content cache for convenient access when appropriate. The portal application can be used with a location estimator to narrow and categorize the advertising content at least in part based on location, either physical location or preferred location or both based on a hierarchy of relevant data.

Abstract: Embodiments of a mobile broadcasting system and method for enhancing mobile broadcasting services with rich media are described herein. In some embodiments, a rich media element is included as part of a terminal capability requirement element of an access fragment of a service guide. The rich media element indicates capabilities to access and render associated rich media content. A rich media element may also be included in a preview data fragment of the service guide to indicate how to obtain a rich media clip to enable a user to preview a service or rich media content in a rich media format.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for managing an access control list for a data item. The method includes designating an owner for the access control list, wherein the owner is a member of the access control list, and wherein only the owner of the access control list is allowed to manage the access control list.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for monitoring the deterioration of a rechargeable battery. A battery monitoring system may be used to store charging information, discharge information and storage information for a rechargeable battery to a data store. The charging information may include a number of charge cycles incurred by the rechargeable battery. The discharge information may include a number discharge cycles incurred by the rechargeable battery. The storage information may include information relating to periods when the rechargeable battery is not being actively charged or discharged. The battery monitoring system may be further used to determine an amount of deterioration of a battery performance characteristic based on the stored charging information, discharge information and storage information.

Abstract: A method and system for performing garbage collection involving sensitive information on a mobile device. Secure information is received at a mobile device over a wireless network. The sensitive information is extracted from the secure information. A software program operating on the mobile device uses an object to access the sensitive information. Secure garbage collection is performed upon the object after the object becomes unreachable.

Abstract: A key arrangement includes a plurality of keys associated with alphabetic characters that include consonants and vowels. Each key within the plurality of keys is associated with a plurality of consonants and no more than one vowel. The plurality of keys is arranged in a grid pattern having at least five keys. The consonants are arranged in a standard keyboard format. Numbers may also be associated with the keys. A mobile communication device includes the key arrangement, a display, a processor, a housing, and a plurality of toggle switches associated with the keys. A method of using a key arrangement is also described.

Abstract: A method of controlling a portable electronic device includes receiving a power-down command, determining an automatic power-up date and time based on an earliest one of a next preset power-up and a next time-dependent event reminder, entering a power-down state, monitoring a date and time, and automatically powering up at the automatic power-up date and time.

Abstract: A method and system for the configuration of a mobile station baseband circuit for an acoustic accessory having an identifier, the method comprising the steps of: determining whether the mobile device recognizes the identifier of the acoustic device; and configuring the baseband circuit with a DSP filter response and CODEC acoustic gain parameters for the acoustic device if the mobile device recognizes the identifier of the acoustic device. The system comprising: an identifier for each of the plurality of acoustic devices; a local memory in the mobile station storing a frequency (filter) response and gain parameters for at least one of the plurality of acoustic devices and for mapping them to the identifier; and a digital signal processor to re-shape an acoustic frequency response and adjust an audio gain of a baseband circuit for the mobile station based on the stored frequency response and gain parameters.

The mobile device is configured to determine whether to handle user approval of the data connection between the mobile device and the peripheral. Through the mobile device, an input mechanism is provided for the user to provide input. Abstract: A portable audio device having reduced sensitivity to RF interference over a predetermined frequency range from an adjacent mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, a battery carried thereby, a recharging power input connected to the battery, a digital signal input, and an audio analog signal output. A digital-to-analog converter (DAC) may be carried by the portable housing and powered by the battery for converting a selected digital audio file from a memory into an analog audio signal. An audio analog amplifier may be connected between the DAC and the audio analog signal output. A first RF filter(s) may be connected to the recharging power input, and a second RF filter(s) may be connected to the audio analog signal output, both for reducing RF interference over the predetermined frequency range from the adjacent mobile wireless communications device.

Abstract: A method of ensuring that data sent to a handheld wireless communications device is written to non-volatile memory is disclosed. In a device, where data is initially written to a first volatile memory and then written to a second volatile memory before being written from the second volatile memory to a non-volatile memory, software code is implemented that causes the writing of the data to non-volatile memory concurrently with the writing of the data to the second volatile memory. The software code may incorporate operating system commands (such as Windows OS).

Abstract: A method and system of improving sensitivity in the demodulation of a received signal over an arbitrary measurement time epoch, the method comprising the steps of: correlating the received signal in a coherent fashion; and utilizing a Viterbi phase state keying trellis demodulation with a variable resolution of phase states over 360.degree. to demodulate the radio frequency phase trajectory of the signal throughout the measurement time epoch; and the system comprising a receiver for receiving a direct sequence spread spectrum signal, the receiver comprising: an antenna for receiving the direct sequence spread spectrum signal; a downconverter for downconverting the received signal, producing a downconverted signal; an analog to digital converter (60) to convert the downconverted signal to a digital signal; a despreader (80) for despreading and coherently correlating the digital signal to a known signal, creating a despread signal; and a processor for applying a Viterbi algorithm to the despread signal.

Abstract: Systems of methods for performing queued and moderated talk groups in a system featuring network provided half duplex communications talk group sessions. For queuing, rather than dropping a talk request from a user which is listening, the request is forwarded and maintained in a list which is the used to grant access to the talk channel. For moderated talk groups, a wireless device is designated to be a moderator network device. The requests for the talk channel are then forwarded to the moderator network device. The moderator network device is equipped with functionality allowing a user of the device to select the order in which devices are granted the talk channel.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a user with the ability to enter and validate contact addresses when composing a message on a mobile device. The user may access at least one of a local contact address data store and a remote contact address data store when entering and validating contact addresses.
