  • Publication number: 20090129280
Abstract: A method of automatically keeping sockets open for always-on applications in a GPRS context is provided. Information is maintained by each wireless device identifying each APN (access point name)-port pair associated with a PDP (packet data protocol) context used by an always-on application. Upon the PDP context becoming available after having become unavailable, a socket is registered for each port-APN pair associated with the PDP context.

  • Publication number: 20090129312
Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to systems and methods for timing synchronization. Uplink synchronization is a necessary component of a UE operating in a mobile, wireless network. Reliable uplink synchronization generally requires regular uplink transmission containing reference signals. A method is provided that defines a burst period for sending the reference signals, determines an interval between the reference signals, and sends a timing instruction message that includes the burst period and the determined interval. A second method is provided that receives the timing instruction message and sends the reference signals in accordance with the timing instruction.

  • Publication number: 20090131051
Abstract: Apparatus (48), and an associated method, for facilitating effectuation of control over when a mobile node (12) operable in a communication system (10) generates control signaling pursuant to a control procedure (62), such as a network search and selection procedure (64) or a registration procedure (66). A determiner (52) determines whether prior-sent control signals appear to have been successfully delivered to the network. If not, a selector (54) selects whether to increase a wait period prior to commencement of a subsequent control procedure, such as another network searching and selection procedure.

  • Publication number: 20090128370
Abstract: Wireless handheld mobile communication device including a housing with a display above a keyboard exposed for user actuation. A length of the device is greater than the width. Each key of a right-hand keyfield has a longitudinal axis oriented at a left-to-right inclined angle while each key of a left-hand keyfield has a longitudinal axis oriented at a right-to-left inclined angle from the vertical centerline. A left boundary of the keyboard is located adjacent the left lateral side edge of the device and the right boundary of the keyboard is located adjacent the right lateral side edge of the device so that the keyboard spans a substantial entirety of the width of the device. When the device is cradled in a right hand of the user, the longitudinal axis of each key of said plurality of keys located on the right is oriented to be parallel with a widthwise axis of the user's right thumb.

  • Publication number: 20090131083
Abstract: In one illustrative example, a plurality of page message requests for a plurality of mobile devices which operate in a wireless communication network are received. One or more paging slots assigned to the mobile devices are identified for transmitting a plurality of page messages in response to these requests. However, the wireless network refrains from causing a page message for the mobile device associated with a tolerable delay indication to be transmitted within the one or more paging slots when a paging capacity limit of the one or more paging slots is reached. This allows higher priority page messages to be transmitted within the one or more paging slots. The wireless network subsequently causes a page message for the mobile device having the tolerable delay indication to be transmitted within one or more subsequent paging slots within a tolerable delay period corresponding to the tolerable delay indication.

  • Publication number: 20090128377
Abstract: Different transmissions based on different content blocks which were segmented from the same digital content according to different segmentation schemes, where each of the content blocks has any substring in common with at least one of the other content blocks, are received by a receiving radio communication station, for example a mobile telephone or a mobile network base station. Certain encoded received bits derived from different ones of the transmissions are combined into combined bits. Other encoded received bits derived from one or more of the different transmissions are provided together with the combined bits to a decoder.

  • Publication number: 20090131034
Abstract: To automatically determine the availability status of the user of a handheld communication device, various selected conditions of the device may be checked, which imply whether or not the user is likely Available, or Unavailable or the equivalent. Normally, the selected conditions are checked only if the user has not explicitly or semi-explicitly set his or her status to Unavailable. The conditions to be checked can vary widely, but generally include anything from which it might be inferred or implied that the user is likely either Available or Unavailable or the equivalent. Such conditions can include, for example, whether or not a specified timeout for use of a keypad, trackwheel or other mechanical feature of the device has elapsed yet; whether or not a real-time application is in use; and preferably any one or more of a variety of other conditions, one further example being whether or not there are any unattended-to notifications such as an unanswered phone call, or a missed e-mail, SMS or other message.

  • Publication number: 20090132827
Abstract: The present invention provides a secure JTAG interface to an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC). In the preferred embodiment the invention operates through the combined efforts of a Security Module (SM) comprising a state machine that controls the security modes for the ASIC, and a Test Control Module (TCM) which contains the JTAG interface. The TCM operates in either a restricted mode or an unrestricted mode, depending on the state of the SM state machine. In a restricted mode, only limited access to memory content is permitted. In an unrestricted mode, full access to memory content is permitted.

  • Publication number: 20090132874
Abstract: A system and method for testing a data storage device without revealing memory content. To control the individual bits of the memory during testing each value is written into the memory according to the equation NEW_DATA=CURRENT_DATA XOR DATA_SEED such that individual bits of NEW_DATA are equal to CURRENT_DATA with selected bits inverted when the corresponding positions in DATA_SEED are high. NEW_DATA is written into the memory, read out and verified, so that all bit positions can be controlled and tested in both logic states, while NEW_DATA and CURRENT_DATA are not ascertainable by the testing software.

  • Publication number: 20090131081
Abstract: A mobile device adjusts its scanning parameters, depending on the rate of change of location of the mobile device. Examples of scanning parameters that may be adjusted include a back-off parameter that affects the time between successive scans, and a scan/don't scan parameter that according to its value prevents the mobile device from scanning or permits the mobile device to scan. The mobile device may maintain different back-off parameters for different types of scans. Determining which scanning parameters to adjust and how to adjust them may depend on whether the rate of change of location of the mobile device does not exceed a low threshold, exceeds a high threshold, or exceeds the low threshold and does not exceed the high threshold. Different thresholds may be applied by the mobile device for different types of scans.
