Abstract: An apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating communication operations with a wireless device that is ICS or DTM capable. Signaling protocols and apparatus are provided for operation of the wireless device when an ICS with the wireless device is ongoing, and the device leaves an area that provides for ICS as well as when the ICS can be provided using circuit-switched connections.

Abstract: A router, which may be a wireless gateway, for routing messages between communications networks, including a persistent storage, and a transport interface for sending outgoing messages to communications devices associated with a first communications network, and receiving incoming messages from the communications devices, and having a storage for storing pending outgoing and incoming messages for subsequent sending by the interface component, the transport interface being coupled to the persistent storage and having an associated shutdown module for serializing at least some of the pending messages to the persistent storage during shutdown of the interface component. The router may include a plurality of the transport interfaces, and a controller coupled to the transport interfaces for directing at least one of the transport interfaces to retrieve from the persistent storage for subsequent sending the pending messages serialized thereto by a further one of the transport interfaces during shutdown thereof.

Abstract: A system and method of testing the audio performance of an acoustic device is provided. To test a device microphone, an audio signal is generated, provided to an external speaker, outputted to the device microphone, and routed to an auxiliary input/output device where it is outputted and analyzed. To test a device speaker, an audio signal is generated, inputted to an auxiliary input/output device, routed to the device speaker, outputted to an external microphone, and outputted to an audio analyzer.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for controlling generation of a registration message by an access terminal to register the access terminal with an access network. A configuration message broadcast by an access network station indicates if the network station is inner-cell-enabled capable and includes a value of a selected threshold, such as a minimum value of a pilot signal strength. The access terminal detects the configuration message and delays sending a registration message until signals received by the access terminal are of characteristics at least as great as the selected threshold.

Abstract: A system and method of testing a wireless communication device during device production comprises designating as a data log buffer when the device is being produced, at least part of random access memory (RAM) of the device that is allocated for virtual machine and/or application usage when the device is operational; and testing the device and storing test log data in the buffer. After testing, the data can be obtained from the buffer and processed using a debugging and log analysis tool.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a user with the ability to download a selected attachment document that is associated with a message received on a mobile device. Attachment data corresponding to the selected attachment document can be downloaded according to at least one of a native application attachment content handling option and a client-server attachment content handling option.

The UE comprises a processor configured to transmit a session initiation protocol (SIP) SUBSCRIBE method request that comprises at least one filter criteria used for selecting specific messages and selecting the information about the messages, where each of the messages is directed to a user identity associated with the UE.

Abstract: A method of ensuring that data sent to a handheld wireless communications device is written to non-volatile memory is disclosed. In a device, where data is initially written to a first volatile memory and then written to a second volatile memory before being written from the second volatile memory to a non-volatile memory, software code is implemented that causes the writing of the data to non-volatile memory concurrently with the writing of the data to the second volatile memory. The software code may incorporate operating system commands (such as Windows OS).

Abstract: A wireless device in a discoverable mode controls its visibility by determining whether to ignore or respond to an inquiry, received from an inquiring device that is searching for discoverable devices, based at least in part on one or more properties of the inquiring device.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for facilitating short-range wireless communications between a mobile wireless device and an auxiliary device. The wireless device includes a short-range transceiver for communicating with an auxiliary device; a signal module for providing a mode control signal; and, a control module for controllably shifting a short-range transceiver between a power saver mode and a search mode based on the mode control signal received from the signal module. When in the search mode, the short-range transceiver is operable to search for the auxiliary device to communicate therewith. When in a power saver mode, the short-range transceiver is not operable to search for the auxiliary device.

Abstract: A method for responding to an electronic mail (“email”) message presented to a user on a display screen of a data processing system, comprising: receiving a command from the user to generate a reply to the email message using content from one or more template replies, the reply having a subject line and a body; presenting a choice of the one or more template replies to the user; receiving a command to select a template reply from the choice, the template reply having a subject line and a body; and generating the reply by inserting content from the body of the template reply into the body of the reply.

Abstract: A challenge response scheme authenticates a requesting device by an authenticating device. The authenticating device generates and issues a challenge to the requesting device. The requesting device combines the challenge with a hash of a password provided by a user, and the combination is further hashed in order to generate a requesting encryption key used to encrypt the user supplied password. The encrypted user supplied password is sent to the authenticating device as a response to the issued challenge. The authenticating device generates an authenticating encryption key by generating the hash of a combination of the challenge and a stored hash of an authenticating device password. The authenticating encryption key is used to decrypt the response in order to retrieve the user-supplied password. If the user-supplied password hash matches the stored authenticating device password hash, the requesting device is authenticated and the authenticating device is in possession of the password.

Abstract: Outgoing phone calls can be made on a handheld electronic device that has been locked to prevent unauthorized use through an override that permits the making of outgoing phone calls while applications additional to the phone application remain locked. In some embodiments, the override can not be selected unless first enabled by a remotely generated enable override authorization signal.

Abstract: A system and method for propagating device settings to a data communications client from a host on a mobile device, the system having at least one host application adapted to operate on the mobile device host and further adapted to change device settings on the mobile device; a notification means adapted to notify the data communications client of device settings changes on the mobile device; a mode setting at the data communications client, the mode setting adapted to indicate whether client applications on the data communications client should use device settings from the host; and a client settings application adapted to receive a notification from the notification means and change device settings for the client applications if the mode setting indicates the client applications should use device settings from the host.

Abstract: A method for automatically configuring an access control point based upon the network resource requirements of an application. The installation of a new application on a mobile device or other user device is accompanied, before, during, or after installation, with the distribution of access control information. An access control point blocks communications based upon access rules. An access update module modifies or sets the access rules based upon the access control information. The access control point and the access update module may be located within the mobile device, within an associated wireless connector system, or in other locations within the mobile communication system. The setting or resetting of the access rules based upon the access control information may be triggered during installation, modification, or removal of the application.

Abstract: Provided are systems and methods for generating a blacklist for femtocells. According to an embodiment of the application, a mobile device generates and maintains a femtocell blacklist including an identification of at least one femtocell to be avoided by the mobile device. Upon detecting a femtocell, the mobile device determines whether the femtocell is identified in the femtocell blacklist. If the femtocell is identified in the femtocell blacklist, then the mobile device avoids any attempt to use the femtocell. This might allow the mobile device to conserve battery power and reduce wireless communication resources. Since the femtocell blacklist is generated and maintained by the mobile device, the network infrastructure does not need to generate and manage the femtocell blacklist. Also, there is no need for the mobile device to download a femtocell blacklist or updates thereof from the network infrastructure.

Abstract: The invention provides a system and method of provisioning a resource to an electronic device. The method comprises the steps of: (a) maintaining a library of resources at a remote server from the device; (b) after a triggering event, providing a data transmission to the device, the data transmission containing access information for the library that can be extracted by the device and used to access the library; and (c) after a selection event initiated on the device for a specific resource from the library, providing a second data transmission to the device, the second data transmission containing a copy of the specific resource. The system provides a server, a resource, a device and a communication link incorporating the method.

Abstract: A test apparatus for conducting a radiated performance test on a wireless device under controlled test conditions, the test apparatus having an anechoic chamber; a test computer; and an interface, the interface adapted to connect the test computer to the wireless device, the test apparatus being adapted to: establish a data connection on the interface between the test computer and the wireless device; initialize and start a timer for a predetermined interval on the wireless device; subject the wireless device to the radiated performance test in the anechoic chamber after the predetermined interval; and analyze test results on the test computer from a test log stored on the wireless device during the radiated performance test, wherein the interface between the test computer and the wireless device is adapted to be removed during the predetermined interval; for conducting a radiated performance test on a wireless device.

Abstract: A microstrip antenna may include an electrically conductive ground plane layer, a dielectric layer adjacent the electrically conductive ground plane layer, and an electrically conductive patch layer adjacent the dielectric layer on a side thereof opposite the electrically conducive ground plane layer. The electrically conductive patch layer may be electrically floating with respect to the electrically conductive ground plane layer and may comprise a body portion and a feed strip extending outwardly from an interior medial portion of the body portion. The feed strip may have opposing first and second sides and an end electrically connected to the body portion. The body portion may have spaced apart first and second slots adjacent respective ones of the first and second opposite sides of the feed strip, and a third slot adjacent the end of the feed strip and spaced from the first and second slots.
