Patent number: 7005610Abstract: A system and method of duplicating CV mode of operation with a CC power includes a wire feeder designed to automatically adjust the speed of which consumable wire is delivered to a weld so as to maintain a target voltage set by a user. The wire feeder is designed to be operational on a CC power source yet automatically adjust the WFS at a rate of adjustment based on initial WFS so that a user-selected target voltage is maintained at the weld. A controller within the wire feeder is programmed to read an input from the user to the wire feeder identifying a target voltage, determine the rate of adjustment, and control the speed by which a drive assembly delivers metal filler to the weld based on the target voltage. By automatically adjusting the WFS, the user is not required to manually adjust the WFS to maintain the target voltage at the weld.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2004Date of Patent: February 28, 2006Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Jeffery R. Patent number: 7004630Abstract: A reclosable package has a flexible zipper and a flexible funnel that can be turned inside out to provide a spout for dispensing the package contents. The funnel has a terminal portion that is offset relative to a midplane of the package. Initially, the funnel is tucked inside the filled package in an unopened state. The funnel can be accessed by pulling apart the zipper halves. The consumer must reach inside the open package and pull the funnel inside out. Then the tip of the funnel is snipped, cut or torn to provide a spout for dispensing product. The offset of the opening allows the consumer to better direct the pour of the package contents, while making the bag easier to handle, especially large bags. The funnel itself directs the package contents, especially fine powders, away from the reclosable zipper profiles so that one or both profiles do not become clogged with matter that might interfere with interlocking.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2002Date of Patent: February 28, 2006Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Duane B. Piechocki, Steven Ausnit, Christian Schuchardt

Patent number: 7005609Abstract: A mid-plane baffle or plate having a fan mounted thereto to dissipate heat within a welding machine is provided. By centrally positioning a baffle and mounting a circulating fan thereto, cooling efficiency is improved thereby enabling more direct cooling of the internal components of the welding machine. The baffle also reduces the critical volume of the welding machine and allows the fan to operate more efficiently and pull an increased amount of cooler ambient air through the machine which creates a greater cooling effect during the cooling cycle of the machine. The baffle placement also improves welding start performance by operating as a barrier between the high frequency/high voltage components and the PC board (control electronics) of the welding machine. The baffle also improves flexibility of component placement within the welding machine.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2004Date of Patent: February 28, 2006Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Bryan P. Patent number: 7002305Abstract: An electronic ballast for a discharge lamp has a controller that increase luminous flux of the lamp to a stabilized level in a constant time irrespective of possible variations in lamp characteristic. The controller utilizes a reference lamp power table and a reference lamp voltage table respectively defining a reference lamp power and a reference voltage varying with time. The controller includes a voltage deviation detector that gives a voltage correction index indicating a voltage deviation between the reference voltage and a monitored lamp voltage. The voltage correction index is processed at an offset provider that gives an offset power. A target power generator is included to correct the reference lamp power in view of the offset power, thereby generating a target lamp power which is constantly updated and is supplied to the lamp.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2003Date of Patent: February 21, 2006Assignee: Matsushita Electric Works, Ltd.Inventors: Takashi Kambara, Toshifumi Tanaka

Patent number: 7000710Abstract: A method for generating a new or corrected horizontal underground bore path from a point below ground for use with a horizontal boring machine. In the preferred embodiment, orientation and depth measurements for a boring tool located below ground are recorded. The current position of the boring tool is determined using a previously determined position, measured orientation of the boring tool, and calculating for pipe bend characteristics. Previous measurements and determined positions are recorded to provide a map of the bore. A new path is calculated using the current position as a starting point and through predetermined critical points for the bore. Instructions for drilling the next segment of the bore are made available to an operator or to a control system for a boring machine.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2003Date of Patent: February 21, 2006Assignee: The Charles Machine Works, Inc.Inventor: Daniel T.
