  • Patent number: 6273041
Abstract: A cam follower (1) designed to be switchable between different lifts for at least one gas-exchange valve and includes two adjacent sections (2,4) which can be coupled together via a coupling element (15). The coupling element (15) cooperates with a shutoff slide (14). It is a special feature of the shut-off slide (14) that it is produced as a mechanically closable and openable piston for an inlet (22) in a pressure chamber (20) in front of the coupling means (15), the piston, however, being maintainable hydraulically in its open position via high switching pressure. At the same time, the shutoff slide (14) is completely incorporated in the cam follower (1) and does not extend beyond it. As a result, undesired fluctuations in the pressure of the hydraulic fluid can no longer act on the coupling means (15) during the base circle of the cams acting on the cam follower (1) and an intended turned-off state.

  • Patent number: 6267218
Abstract: A clamp-type locking mechanism has a driven element rotatably arranged with respect to a holding element and having ramps which together with a track of the holding element define clamping gaps for receiving spring-loaded clamp rollers. An adjustment element is swingable to a limited extent with respect to the driven element and provided for rotation in unison with the driven element, with the adjustment element having engagement members for moving the clamp rollers out of their clamping gaps. Located between the driven element and the holding element is a friction device for transmitting a friction moment. In order to maintain a correct friction moment during wear of the friction device, a spring mechanism is provided by which the friction device is biased with its friction surface against the holding element.

  • Patent number: 6234929
Abstract: A tensioner for traction means such as a belt, includes a housing which accommodates a cylinder for guiding a hydraulically dampened, spring-loaded plunger in an axial direction for tensioning the traction means. The interior space of the housing is closed by a cover which has a guide opening for passage of the plunger. A seal is placed outside the cover to seal an annular opening bounded by the housing and the plunger. In order to prevent a gas cushion under pressure and trapped between the cover and the seal, from pushing the seal from its seat, the cover is formed with a vent passageway which communicates with the interior space for release of the gas cushion via the vent passageway into the interior space.
