  • Patent number: 4152950
Abstract: A two cable differential and push-pull system uses both cables simultaneously to operate a controlled device. The two cables are tensioned together or pushed together, or one cable is tensioned while the other is pushed, to operate a single device. Controls which have used separate cables for separate functions use paired cables for the multiple functions, reducing stress on individual cables without increasing the number of cables in the installation. In the illustrated transmission control a differential motion, which includes pushing and pulling forces, is applied through the cables to select a rail. A coincident pushing or pulling force is applied through both cables to shift the rail.

  • Patent number: 4137799
Abstract: A single lever control unit for sequentially operating a transmission and throttle and, selectively, for operating the throttle independently of the transmission. A throttle shaft assembly disengages from a throttle gear by pulling out the shaft while in the neutral position. A double key on the throttle shaft disengages from a keyway in the throttle gear and a spring-loaded pin engages a cavity in the throttle gear to lock both shift and throttle gears in the neutral position. Throttle only may then be applied. When the hand lever is returned to the neutral position, the throttle shaft automatically engages the throttle gear and the locking pin automatically disengages by means of spring loading. The locking pin prevents pulling out the shaft in other than the neutral position.A spring provides axial loading between the throttle arm connected to the shaft and a friction plate mounted on the shaft. This loading creates a frictional drag which prevents throttle creep.

  • Patent number: 4132415
Abstract: A wiper which clamps on cable conduit and fits over end cup seals has an opening which loosely receives a sliding cable rod to scrape debris from the rod before portions of the rod enter the seal. The wiper is formed from a strip of spring steel pierced centrally to receive the rod. The piercing forms a slight convex shape and leaves a bow which extends toward the end of the rod to further aid the debris-removing function. The strip is bent rearwardly and then inwardly on both sides, and termini of the strip are formed with abutting semi-circular recesses to engage the conduit behind the end cup.

  • Patent number: 4099540
Abstract: A two-way filter bypass valve seat has several holes, in this case four. Two similar valve plates with two holes each are arranged at 90.degree. to each other on opposite sides of the seat so that two holes in each plate align with two of the holes in the seat. A single spring or a spring for each pin is compressed by a keeper which joins the rivets or individual keepers on ends of the rivets in the case of individual springs. The large single keeper is square; rivets extend through opposite corners of the square and remaining corners are bent inward to retain a large spring from lateral displacement. The seat is mounted in a conventional cartridge-type oil filter with a two-way valve across the central screen cylinder so that excessive pressure differential from either side of the valve opens the valve to permit flow, bypassing the filter. The seat extends across the inner screen cylinder to seal the inner cylinder permitting flow only through the valve.

  • Patent number: 4041790
Abstract: A spring clip is capable of selective installation on and removal from a pair of adjacent pins in a roller chain. The spring clip has a body portion formed of sheet spring metal and an opening at each of its opposite ends. The intermediate section of the body portion is preformed into an arc to establish a predetermined linear distance between the openings. The openings may only be simultaneously received by and installed at recesses at the extended ends of each pin by deforming the arc of the intermediate section to alter the distance between the openings to a magnitude generally corresponding to a predetermined distance between the pins. When both openings are simultaneously installed at the recessed portions of their respective pins, the arc of the intermediate section tends to re-establish the predetermined linear distance to prevent inadvertent removal of the spring clip from the pins.

  • Patent number: 4020713
Abstract: A system is provided for controlling a motor and rudder of a power boat selectively from either of two remote stations, each of which includes means for producing linear input signals for motor shift and throttle control and for steering control. The system includes a steering input selector mechanism which is capable of transmitting the linear input signal for steering control from one of the stations to the rudder while isolating the signal from the other station. A motor input selector mechanism is capable of transmitting the linear input signals for motor shift and throttle control from one of the stations to the motor while isolating the signals from the other station. The steering and motor input selector mechanism may be actuated to facilitate the selection of one of the stations whenever corresponding linear input signals from the two stations are substantially equal.
