  • Patent number: 4847960
Abstract: Tool turret for NC automatic lathes comprising a turret body, in which a plurality of tool drive shafts arranged about a turret indexing axis are rotatably mounted, and comprising a main drive shaft coaxial to the turret indexing axis and in drive connection with the tool drive shafts via a miter gear arrangeed in the turret body, as well as a change-over gear for driving the tool drive shafts at different rotational speeds. In order to provide a space-saving and simple construction, the change-over gear is arranged in the turret body between the main drive shaft and the tool drive shaft and is designed as a gear adapted to be changed over only when at a standstill and having no idling state between the drive positions.

  • Patent number: 4818925
Abstract: Device for setting the working point of a tool with respect to a reference point in an NC machine tool with a tool slide system and a path measuring system for the tool slide motion which is connected to a machine control system, and with a control sensor for transmitting a correction signal to the machine control system. The control sensor can be brought to the reference point, up to and over which the tool point can be moved by program control, starting from a starting point of the tool slide. The starting point of the tool slide and the reference point are spaced at a specified distance from one another and distances of the tool point from the starting point of the tool slide can be balanced by the machine control system against reference distances which can be evaluated by the machine control system on the basis of the correction signal and also on the basis of path measurement signals of the path measuring system.

  • Patent number: 4587871
Abstract: NC turret lathe comprising a tool turret rotatable about an indexing axis and mounted for rotation in a turret slide displaceable in a direction parallel to the indexing axis, also comprising a turret indexing drive monitored by a control mechanism for rotating the tool turret, and a slide drive monitored by a control mechanism for displacing the turret slide. In order to decrease the expenditure required to index the tool turret, the slide drive also constitutes the turret indexing drive, and the slide drive control also serves to monitor the turrent indexing drive. An actuatable coupling is provided between the slide drive and the turret to prevent undesired rotation of the turret when it is only to be slidably displaced.

  • Patent number: 4317394
Abstract: The arrangement for loading and unloading workpieces of machine tools includes a pair of spaced loading arms supported on a carriage for pivoting about a first axis. A pair of spaced unloading arms are also supported on the carriage above the loading arms for pivoting about a second axis parallel to the first axis. Each arm carries a gripper for the workpiece, and each pair of grippers is movable by the associated arms along an arcuate path between an initial position and an end position. The initial positions of the two pairs of grippers are different but the end positions are common. The carriage is movable from a workpiece magazine, where the loading arms pick up an unmachined part and the unloading arms subsequently release a machined part, to a position within the work space of the machine where the unloading arms pick up the machined part and the loading arms subsequently position the unmachined part for machining.

  • Patent number: 3968415
Abstract: The turret on a slide of a machine tool is indexible between a plurality of positions in a sequence which is selected by a program. The apparatus for effecting the indexing of turret has a control unit wherein a hydraulic motor can rotate an indexing shaft at different speeds which are determined by the reciprocable spool of a valve regulating the flow of hydraulic fluid from the motor. The spool can be biased against a cam on the indexing shaft by a spring and can be retracted by an electromagnet which is controlled by a decoding unit having several cams on a camshaft which is driven by the turret and several switches which are adjacent to the camshaft.

  • Patent number: 3948122
Abstract: An automatic program controlled profile lathe for turning cylindrical workpieces with rough and finished cuts is described. The lathe has a cross feed on which a post is slidably located. A tool is held on the post in opposition to the workpiece and hydraulic means are provided for reciprocally moving the post in the infeed direction toward the workpiece. The hydraulic means comprises a source of fluid, a valve for regulating the flow of fluid to determine the direction of movement of the post and a tracing lever articulatingly mounted on the post for actuating the valve in the infeed direction. The tracer lever is provided with first and second arms. A fixed template is located to engage the first arm for determining the operation of the valve for finish cutting. Stop means is arranged in the plane of the infeed movement of the second arm for engagement therewith to operate the valve and limit the movement of the post in the infeed direction during rough cutting.

  • Patent number: 3946471
Abstract: An automatic lathe wherein the carriage for an indexible tool turret is biased against a stop and can be moved toward the work spindle by a rotary cam which is driven by a hydraulic motor and is arrested by a hydraulic brake when the carriage reaches a selected position. The motor is automatically decelerated to crawling speed prior to complete stoppage of the cam and the brake is applied subsequent to deceleration of the motor and simultaneously with opening of an arresting valve which connects the supply and return conduits for the motor. The supply conduit continues to receive some pressurized fluid while the motor is at a standstill. Abrupt acceleration of the motor is prevented by maintaining the arresting valve in open position after a motor valve increases the rate of fluid flow from a pump to the supply conduit and by closing the arresting valve simultaneously with disengagement of the brake.

  • Patent number: 3946296
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for checking and monitoring the movement of a tool carriage in response to a numerical controlled program. The path of movement of the tool carriage is recorded independently of the program control during the initial run of the carriage, in a manner capable of being subsequently sensed. The recorded path is thereafter sensed during the subsequent runs of the carriage and a signal is produced when the carriage deviates from the recorded path. The recording device includes a stationary supporting member having a surface upon which a drawing or etching may be made. The drawing or etching member is mounted to the movable carriage so as to become jointly movable therewith. The sensing member is mounted in conjunction with the drawing instrument and is interchangeable therewith during the sensing portion of the procedure.
