  • Patent number: 9922263
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system and a method for detection of touching characters in a media, characterized by segmentation of adjoining character spaces. In the very first step, an aspect ratio is calculated for each connected component. A candidate touching position of each character is determined by calculating a threshold aspect ratio for each character. Further, a candidate cut column is determined based on a relation between column pixel densities and corresponding length thereof the column in order to segment the touching characters at the candidate cut column.

  • Patent number: 9712828
Abstract: Technologies are generally described to identify foreground motion detection in compressed video data. In some examples, a foreground motion detection module may determine transform-coefficient-magnitude sums and motion-vector-magnitude sums associated with block coding units (BCUs) in compressed video data without decompressing the video data. The foreground motion detection module may also determine a background mean and a background co-variance associated with the compressed video data. To determine whether the BCU(s) contain foreground motion, the foreground motion detection module may determine a statistic based on the transform-coefficient-magnitude sums, the motion-vector magnitude sums, the background mean, and the background co-variance and compare the statistic to a threshold.

  • Patent number: 9201042
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for producing fluids with desired concentration factors. According to one embodiment, an arrangement of digital microfluidic (DMF) based electrode platforms are provided. The arrangement may be configured to carry out a sequence of mix steps that may demand storage of resultant fluid mixtures produced in intermediate mix steps. Such sequences of mix steps may be desirable as a result of the decreased demand for initial fluid samples, and reduced wastage.

  • Patent number: 9152877
Abstract: Shift-invariant wavelet transform with properly selected wavelet base and decomposition level(s), is used to characterize rough-wavelet granules producing wavelet granulation of a feature space for a multispectral image such as a remote sensing image. Through the use of the granulated feature space contextual information in time and/or frequency domains are analyzed individually or in combination. Neighborhood rough sets (NRS) are employed in the selection of a subset of granulated features that further explore the local and/or contextual information from neighbor granules.

  • Patent number: 9128014
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for producing fluids with desired concentration factors from the given supply of any two concentration factors, one greater than the target CF and one less than the target CF, of the same fluid. According to one embodiment, a method is provided that stores intermediate waste droplets from a sequence of mix and split steps and repeats certain steps of the sequence using the stored intermediate waste droplets. Such a method may produce additional target CF droplets faster than repeating the entire sequence. In another embodiment, a method of volumetric error resilient target CF droplet generation has been described, and includes reusing the stored intermediate waste droplets and involves a collection of capacitive sensing circuits associated with some electrode platforms.

  • Patent number: 8700548
Abstract: Provided embodiments include a method, a system, a device, and an article of manufacture. A system for terminating a genetic algorithm (GA), where the GA uses an iterator and generates one best solution per iteration, includes a memory, an iterative processor, and a terminating processor. The memory is provided for storing a plurality of best solutions generated in a plurality of iterations of the GA. One of the best solutions generated in one of the iterations is stored in the memory if the one of the best solutions is better than a previous one of the best solutions generated in a previous one of the iterations. The iterative processor computes a variance of the plurality of the best solutions stored in the memory. The terminating processor terminates the iterator when the variance is less than or equal to a predetermined threshold.

  • Publication number: 20130272607
Abstract: A system and a method for identification of alphanumeric characters present in a series in an image are disclosed. The system and method captures the image and further processes it for binarization by computing a pattern of the image. The generated binarized images are then filtered for removing unwanted components. Candidate images are identified out of the filtered binarized images. All the obtained candidate images are combined to generate a final candidate image which is further segmented in order to recognize a valid alphanumeric character present in the series.

  • Publication number: 20130115703
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for producing fluids with desired concentration factors. According to one embodiment, a sequence of mix steps comprises mixing a resultant solution of a preceding mix step with one of the input solutions of the preceding mix step depending on a concentration factor of the resultant solution. If the concentration factor of the resultant solution is higher than the target concentration factor, then the resultant solution is mixed with the input solution having the lower concentration factor. If the concentration factor of the resultant solution is lower than the target concentration factor, then the resultant solution is mixed with the input solution having the higher concentration factor.
