  • Publication number: 20130188019
Abstract: A method of operating a camera with a microfluidic lens to identify a depth of an object in image data generated by the camera has been developed. The camera generates an image with the object in focus, and a second image with the object out of focus. An image processor generates a plurality of blurred images from image data of the focused image, and identifies blur parameters that correspond to the object in the second image. The depth of the object from the camera is identified with reference to the blur parameters.

  • Publication number: 20120299387
Abstract: A method for detecting faults in a solar cell includes measuring at least one operational parameter of a solar cell, measuring an output of the solar cell, identifying differences between the measured output of the solar cell and estimated outputs of a first and second model of operating modes of the solar cell, generating probabilities corresponding to the likelihood that each model corresponds to the actual operating mode of the solar call based on the identified differences, and disconnecting the output of the solar cell from a load in response to the identified current operating mode being the operating mode of the second model.

  • Publication number: 20110246221
Abstract: A patient health management system includes a personal computing system having a computer readable memory storing computer executable code. The system further includes a microprocessor configured to execute the computer executable code and compare stored medication library data with image data associated with a digital image of a medication captured by a digital imaging device of the personal computing system. The microprocessor is further configured to link profile data for a patient-user of the personal computing system with identification data for the medication and output an administration confirmation request based on the linked data. The administration confirmation request may include a wireless signal transmitted to a remote computing system to enable a remote computer or a health services provider to confirm that planned self-administration of medication by a patient is correct.

  • Publication number: 20110245653
Abstract: A method of imaging biological tissue enables imaging structure in the biological tissue with an antenna tuned to emit radio energy through at least a covering layer of the biological tissue without significant attenuation of the radio energy. The method includes contacting skin covering tissue with a radio frequency emitting antenna, and adjusting at least one of a radiator and a feed in the antenna with reference to at least one measured electrical or physical property of the skin. The adjustment of the radiator and feed enable a combination of the antenna and skin to emit radio energy at a predetermined magnitude and frequency into a portion of the tissue covered by the skin.

  • Publication number: 20110182483
Abstract: A method of generating a biometric feature descriptor has been developed that includes acquiring an image of an anatomical feature having a biometric feature, isolating a region of the image having the biometric feature, extracting image data from the image of the region to identify a plurality of features for the biometric feature, transforming the extracted image data for each identified feature into a plurality of feature descriptors, mapping the feature descriptors for the plurality of features into a first arrangement of feature descriptors, generating a second arrangement of feature descriptors with a non-invertible transform of the first arrangement of feature descriptors, and storing the second arrangement of feature descriptors into an electronic database.

  • Publication number: 20100202668
Abstract: An image quality measuring method enables a biometric image to be evaluated to determine whether the biometric image data are adequate for identification processing. The method includes converting a biometric image to dimensionless image data, filtering the dimensionless image data with a band pass filter, identifying a plurality of portions in the filtered data as containing identification features, each portion in the plurality having an information measurement that indicates feature content greater than portions in the filtered data that are excluded from the plurality, and measuring clarity for the biometric image from the identified plurality of portions in the filtered data.

  • Publication number: 20100030711
Abstract: A method is used to configure an extended analog computer for use as an application controller. The method includes selecting input pins from among a plurality of pins in a continuous sheet processor, selecting an arrangement of intermediate and output pins from among the remaining pins in the plurality of pins in the continuous sheet processor, applying a pattern data set to the input pins, using an evolutionary algorithm, coupling current sources and sinks to the intermediate and output pins, measuring an error between an output and its expected value, and continuing to select intermediate and output pin arrangements, apply pattern data sets, and measure errors until a configuration threshold is met.
