  • Patent number: 4831715
Abstract: A coil placing machine having an improved operating sequence for positioning coil separating insulators in certain core slots is disclosed. The insulators are supported about a coil placing machine super structure and stripped therefrom into the respective slots by movement of the stator core into position for receiving coils from the placing machine. In the preferred apparatus a stator gage and blade aligning tool has a first portion for engaging blades of a coil placing apparatus and the second portion for axially and radially aligning a stator core with the coil placing apparatus as well as a portion intermediate the first and second portions for supporting insulators in a position to be transferred to a stator core by relative motion between the core and tool. With this arrangement, the motion normally required to position the stator core preparatory to receiving coils is also effective to locate the intermediate insulators in the stator core.

  • Patent number: 4566180
Abstract: A coil placing machine having an improved operating sequence for positioning prewound coils and coil separating insulators in certain core slots is disclosed. A portion of each insulator is supported obliquely to the core axis and then both insulators and coils are moved toward the core, coil movement is interrupted while the insulators continue to move into their ultimate position within the core and thereafter coil movement is resumed to complete the coil and insulator placing operation. In the preferred aparatus a conventional coil stripper and insulation inserting gauge and blade alignment tool are separately actuated to pass into the core so that the axial separation between the stripper and tool is at first constant and then increases and finally decreases as the coil and insulator insertion progresses.

  • Patent number: 4486947
Abstract: Relatively large coils or windings are positioned in relatively lengthy stator cores with the aid of a coil placing machine by placing coils over certain finger elements of the machine, revolving the set of finger elements and corresponding insulating wedge guides and placing further coils over other of the finger elements. Thereafter, a dynamoelectric machine stator core is positioned in axial alignment with the finger elements with one end face thereof engaging the wedge guide ends and with the finger element free ends just entering the bore of the stator core. A stripper and the plurality of finger elements are moved together along the bore of the core to lead side turn portions of the coils into and along respective core slots whereupon movement of at least some of the finger elements is halted while movement of at least the stripper continues to complete placement of the coils.

  • Patent number: 4480379
Abstract: Improvements in adapting coil placing machines to accommodate cores of differing sizes such as varying stack heights is disclosed wherein a ram actuated stripper which normally engages and urges coils along finger elements into a magnetic core is extended to mechanically couple a portion of a shaft supporting those finger elements with a portion of the stripper actuating rod so as to prevent relative rotation between those two coupled portions and then the coupled portions are rotated together while holding the stripper and finger elements in a rotationally fixed position so as to allow a threaded interconnection coupling the fingers to the finger support shaft as well as a threaded interconnection coupling the stripper to the stripper actuating ram portion to move both the stripper and the fingers axially within the machine.

  • Patent number: 4455743
Abstract: Apparatus for placing coils and phase insulation in the slots of a dynamoelectric machine stator core member includes a core member loading and unloading station, a coil and phase insulation placing station, a preliminary end turn forming station, and a coil drifting station. An unwound core member at the loading/unloading station is loaded in mounting apparatus on a transfer arm which transfers the core to the placing station where coils and phase insulation are placed in the core member slots. The core is then transferred by the transfer arm to the preliminary end turn forming station where the end turns of the coils are formed away from the bore of the core member. The core member is then transferred by the transfer arm to the drifting station where the coils are drifted into the slots. The transfer arm ultimately transfers a fully wound core back to the loading/unloading station where the wound core is unloaded from the transfer arm and then inverted.

  • Patent number: 4432400
Abstract: A coil inserting blade array has a first position in which the distal ends of a group of adjacent blades extend into the coil form recess with the two gaps at the sides of the group exposed to the angled section-shaping portions so that a coil wound on coil form may be transferred to the array with angled sections extending through the two gaps and one end section disposed within the array. The array has a second position with the distal ends of the blades extending into the bore of the core and engaging teeth thereof, and with the two gaps communicating with two winding slots, the two gaps defining a first angle therebetween. The angled section-shaping portions of coil form define a second angle therebetween slightly smaller than the first angle and having a center spaced outwardly from the centerline of the array on the side thereof remote from the one end section in the first position of the array.

  • Patent number: 4156964
Abstract: A fast set up tooling arrangement for a coil placing machine is disclosed wherein the finger elements or blades which support coils as well as a magnetic core into which the coils are to be placed, as well as the reciprocable ram actuated stripper which is movable along those finger elements to engage and move coils into the magnetic core are readily adjustable axially of the machine to accommodate changes in the height of the magnetic core or stack. The arms which grip the core and the length of insulating wedges to be placed in the core may also be adjustable. The axial extent of the finger elements or tooling blades as well as the axial distance traveled by the stripper are simultaneously adjusted by imparting a relative rotary motion between the stripper and finger elements on the one hand and a finger support shaft and stripper actuating ram on the other hand with the respective rotated and fixed elements being threadingly interconnected.
