Abstract: The specification discloses a calculator and method for calculating degree of offset and angularity of two shafts coupled together. At least one illustration of two machines having coupled shafts with gauges mounted on them appears on the face of the calculator. A series of indicator lights are placed near the illustration which light in sequence to indicate to the user what measurements to take and the sequence in which to enter this data. The calculator contains the appropriate equations in its memory for calculating offset and angularity from the data entered by the user.

Abstract: The specificatin discloses several methods of measuring the alignment of coupled shafts preferably by suspending gauges over the coupled shafts and taking gauge readings, measuring certain distances of the gauges from predetermined points such as the coupling centerline, inserting those values in given equations and solving the equations. The solutions are then compared to a predetermined range of acceptable values to determine if the coupled shafts are in an acceptable alignment.

Abstract: The specification discloses a calculator for determining the distance that a machine coupled to a second machine must be moved so that the coupled shafts between the machines will be properly aligned. The calculator employs a series of lights and associated identification which indicate to the user what data to enter and the sequence in which to enter data.
