  • Patent number: 8437562
Abstract: An intra-prediction mode optimization method and image compression method/device are disclosed. To properly determine an intra-prediction mode for a target block of an image, a control block is selected from reference blocks of the target block, and an intra-prediction mode adopted in the control block is regarded as a control mode. Assuming that the target block is encoded according to the control mode as well, the prediction efficiency of the target and control blocks is assessed. When the intra-prediction efficiency, under the control mode, of the target block is better than that of the control block, the control mode is determined to be the intra-prediction mode of the target block and an intra-prediction pattern of the target block can be obtained. Otherwise, another one of the reference blocks is selected to be the control block and the control mode is refreshed, to repeat the intra-prediction efficiency assessment.

  • Publication number: 20030012263
Abstract: A single-user detection method operates to reduce the effects of interference in multi-user detection systems. Based upon a number of received user codes, a receiver defines a frame of symbols containing at least one window. A symbol amplitude of a single-user in a multi-user system is approximated over the window of the frame and a perturbative correction value is calculated based upon a correlation or decorrelation matrix, which is determined by the delay spread of the signals. An estimation of the symbol amplitude of the single-user signal is calculated over one or a number of windows of the frame. The single-user signal is detected when the symbol amplitudes of the entire signal within the frame has been calculated.

  • Patent number: 6333507
Abstract: A system is designed to measure the concentration of a specific chemical composition of a fluid and is formed of a light generating device, a fluorescent light receiver, and a display. The light generating device emits an excitation light to cause a probe submerged in the fluid to emit fluorescent light, which is received by a photoelectric diode of the fluorescent light receiver and is than converted by the photoelectric diode into an electric current signal. The display receives the electric current signal, which is then converted by the display into the concentration of the specific chemical composition of the fluid. The information on the concentration of the specific chemical composition is exhibited on the display.

  • Patent number: 6140220
Abstract: An improved dual damascene structure, and process for manufacturing it, are described in which the via hole is first lined with a layer of silicon nitride prior to adding the diffusion barrier and copper. This allows use of a barrier layer that is thinner than normal (since the silicon nitride liner is an effective diffusion barrier) so that more copper may be included in the via hole, resulting in an improved conductance of the via. A key feature of the process that is used to make the structure is the careful control of the etching process. In particular, the relative selectivity of the etch between silicon oxide and silicon nitride must be carefully adjusted.

  • Patent number: 6000826
Abstract: An apparatus for determining assignments to attributes (e.g., electrical power or overall dimensional size) of components within a system. A computerized constraint network is constructed which uses constraint agents, variable agents, and task agents in order to make assignments to the attributes of the components based upon market-based constraint optimization techniques. The attributes have variables indicative of the assignments to the attributes. Constraint data structures assist the agents in determining permissible assignments for the variables. The constraint data structures use preferential rules for determining the assignments to the variables. The preferential rules indicate which assignments for the variables of the agents produce higher utility and lower cost.

  • Patent number: 5933231
Abstract: An optical method and system for measuring bore hole diameter, out-of-roundness and lobing and a probe for use therein are provided. A ring of structured light is initially formed or projected on the inner surface of a bore hole by optical components supported within a housing of the probe. A lens system also supported within the housing images the ring of light. Image merging lenses of the lens system reform the image at a video camera located at a window of the housing such that two or more arcs of the ring form a magnified image with the image of the arcs being shifted in space such that all the arcs can be viewed by the camera. The video camera image is captured by a frame grabber/computer. A computer calculates the location of the arcs and from this information determine bore diameter and other bore properties such as out-of-roundness and lobing.
