Abstract: A system for mechanical separation of materials comprising at least two platforms, each comprising screws undergoing a rotational movement, wherein the screws have a proximal end and a distal end, the distal end being free, wherein the screws of a first one of the at least two platforms all have a first inclination from the proximal end thereof to the distal end thereof; wherein the screws of a second one of the at least two platforms all have a second inclination from the proximal end thereof to the distal end thereof; the first inclination being different from the second inclination. The at least two platforms form a drop in-between along the main direction of travel. There is a double-start thread screw by the drop on the downstream platform that prevents long objects to pass through the screws and optionally a curtain of elongated members by the drop.

Abstract: A system for sorting materials comprising a sorting apparatus comprising a handling tool and a robotized arm for displacing the handling tool over the materials; and a vacuum apparatus creating a depression and having a tubing extending from a source for the depression to the handling tool where the tubing for the vacuum apparatus ends and where it defines a diameter. The handling tool is adapted to be displaced to a selected item among the materials and perform a contact therewith with the end of the tubing for the vacuum apparatus for either: grabbing the selected item if the selected item is larger than the diameter; or sucking up the selected item if the selected item is smaller than the diameter, wherein sucking up the selected item has the selected item travel under the effect of the vacuum apparatus.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for inspecting matter and the use thereof for sorting recyclable material including transparent material are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a lighting unit for projecting a concentrated diffused lighting onto the matter to generate a specular reflected light beam representative of the inspected matter. The apparatus comprises an imaging unit mounted according to a given imaging angle with respect to the projected concentrated diffused lighting for imaging the specular reflected light beam to provide image data representative of the inspected matter. The apparatus comprises an analyzing unit for analyzing the image data and providing matter characterization data based on the specular reflected light beam representative of the inspected matter.

Abstract: The present invention generally pertains to a single ram baler having a preflap assembly and a shear blade assembly. More specifically, the single ram baler of the present invention comprises a preflap assembly operable to pre-compact recycled material of smaller size in a compaction chamber of the baler to improve density properties of the bales produced therewith and to increase the efficiency of the baler. The baler is also operable with recycled material of large dimensions by operating the shear blades assembly without using the preflap assembly.
