Patent number: 7657630Abstract: At a server 2, a subject for updating an object registered in a database 3 and an event for obtaining the subject are generated, while a request for the subject from a receiving terminal 5 is received and totaled so that a resource necessary for providing the subject is allocated on the basis of the result of totaling. Then, the event is transmitted and the subject is provided on the basis of the resource allocated thereto. At the receiving terminal 5, the event is received and the necessity of the subject to be obtained on the basis of the event is evaluated so that request data requesting the subject is transmitted to the server 2 on the basis of the result of evaluation. Then, the subject provided by the server 2 in response to the request data is obtained on the basis of the event.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2004Date of Patent: February 2, 2010Assignees: Sony Corporation, Information Broadcasting Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Yoshihisa Gonno, Fumihiko Nishio, Kazuo Haraoka, Yasuaki Yamagishi

Patent number: 7627881Abstract: A transmitting system for transmitting contents data, meta data, and meta data schema. A meta data schema that represents the structure of meta data of contents data is stored in a meta data schema storing portion. A contents segmenting portion generates segmentation data for selecting a particular segment from successive contents data supplied from a contents storing portion and supplies the generated segmentation data to a meta data combining portion. The meta data combining portion correlates meta data with corresponding segmentation data in a format corresponding to the structure of the meta data schema, combines the meta data with the segmentation data, and outputs the combined data. The meta data schema, meta data with segmentation data, and contents data are converted in a transmission format.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2000Date of Patent: December 1, 2009Assignees: Sony Corporation, Information Broadcasting Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Yoshihisa Gonno, Fumihiko Nishio, Kazuo Haraoka, Kazuhiko Takabayashi, Yasuaki Yamagishi

Patent number: 7328402Abstract: Transmitting apparatuses, transmitting methods, receiving apparatuses, receiving methods, and transmitting and receiving systems for transmitting and receiving a hierarchical structure of a directory for hierarchically managing locations of contents data is disclosed. The apparatuses, methods and systems manage a hierarchical structure of a directory composed of a container entry and a leaf entry. The container entry contains information of the lower hierarchical level thereof, a leaf entry being located directly below a container entry. The leaf entry does not contain information of the lower hierarchical level thereof.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2000Date of Patent: February 5, 2008Assignees: Sony Corporation, Information Broadcasting Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Yasuaki Yamagishi, Yoshihisa Gonno, Fumihiko Nishio, Kazuhiko Takabayashi, Kazuo Haraoka

Patent number: 6546556Abstract: A tagged scene of a video stream transmitted from a first to second stations in television broadcasting system is collected while preventing the tags from being used for commercial cutting (i.e., indiscriminate tagged scene cutting). The first station generates for each scene a tag includes a category, a location for use in locating a beginning of the scene and a length. A second station obtains a desired category from the user. Detecting a tag in the video stream, if the category coincides with the desired category, the second station clips from the video stream a part of the length defined in the tag from a position located by using the location.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1998Date of Patent: April 8, 2003Assignees: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., Information Broadcasting Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Mitsuteru Kataoka, Kazuhiro Machida, Takenosuke Harada

Patent number: 6282209Abstract: A system of clipping a specified segment from a continuous medium with a raised precision in a terminal served be a digital broadcasting system. A plurality of continuous media is broadcast as a multiplexed stream, preferably as a transport stream of MPEG-2 standard. In the receiving terminal, a reference time (t) is generated. The start and end times Ts and Te of a specified segment of a specified medium are expressed in the reference time. The specified medium is downloaded during a period including the start time Ts and the end time Te to obtain a first portion of the continuous medium. Then, a second portion is clipped from the first portion such that the second portion starts with a data unit that has been received after the start time Ts and has a first header including a first minimum index and ends just before a data unit that has been received after the end time Te and has a second header including a second minimum index.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1999Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Assignees: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., Information Broadcasting Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Mitsuteru Kataoka, Takenosuke Harada
