Abstract: Provided are an operation circuit for a modified Euclidean algorithm in a high-speed Reed-Solomon (RS) decoder and a method of implementing the modified Euclidean algorithm. Since a finite state machine (FSM) for generating a stop signal and an FSM for generating a control signal that controls a swap operation, a shift operation, and a polynomial operation for each basic cell of the modified Euclidean algorithm are used, an area-efficient RS decoder can be realized without using a conventional degree computation unit for comparing and calculating degrees.

  • Publication number: 20080175783
Abstract: The present invention relates to amino-functionalized mesoporous silica. The present invention provides amino-functionalized mesoporous silica having hexagonal platelet morphology with short channels perpendicular to the platelet. The lengths of the channels are preferably 10˜1000 nm. The present invention also provides a method for preparing amino-functionalized mesoporous silica having hexagonal platelet morphology comprising a series of steps in sequence which are reactive gel preparation before subjected to the microwave, microwave heating for co-condensation reaction and crystallization, and solvent extraction for surfactant removal. The direct co-condensation approach with microwave heating and adoption of sodium metasilicate as silica source can give great advantage in the view of economy and environment.

  • Patent number: 7280921
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of visualizing large-scale protein interaction data, comprising the steps of (1) producing an initial layout by placing all nodes of protein interaction data on the surface of a sphere by increasing horizontal and vertical angles of polar coordinates; and (2) yielding a graph by iterating a process moving each node of the initial layout to an equilibrium position considering global spring forces between non-adjacent nodes as well as local spring forces between adjacent nodes on a predetermined number of times, by which large-scale protein interaction data is effectively visualized in a three-dimensional space. The method for visualization of the present invention, which is much faster than the conventional algorithms, can be used for interactive analysis, as well as provide an integrated system capable of directly visualizing query results from a protein-protein interaction database.

  • Patent number: 6651010
Abstract: There is disclosed a method for visualizing secondary structures of RNA molecules, by which nearly overlap-free polygonal displays of RNA secondary structures are produced with minimal distortion to structural elements, with minimal search for positioning them, and with minimal user intervention. While vector and vector space are used to determine the direction and space of a structural element, two heuristics are adopted for the task of searching for the space and direction of structural elements. With the aid of the two heuristics, loops are positioned in decreasing order of their sizes and a helix is positioned, depending on the position of its adjacent loop which has been positioned. In consideration of both a potentially open and wide vector space and an allowed vector space, a structural element is positioned.

  • Patent number: 6291726
Abstract: The nitration of aromatic compounds is achieved in high yield and selectivity by using oxygen activated by an inorganic catalyst and nitrogen dioxide. Since this process uses neither concentration nitric nor sulfuric acids, the generation of spent waste acid does not occur. Furthermore, the process does not encounter the problem of high costs associated with the generation of ozone as in an alternative nitration process. Since the solubility of oxygen in a reaction medium is increased by using pressurized oxygen, nitrogen dioxide is activated by a porous inorganic oxide and thus an aromatic compound(e.g., benzene) is nitrated into a nitro compound (e.g., PhNO2), the reaction rate is significantly increased, and the recovery of reactants is easy due to the insolubility of the catalyst.
