Patent number: 5223140Abstract: The invention is process for biologically treating ink/starch waste-water which is typically produced from the process of making paper and cardboard products. Waste-water that contains naturally occurring facultative anaerobic bacteria is placed into a first tank so that the first tank and the mixture is stirred until a pH of between about 4 to about 6 is reached. The mixture is transferred into a second tank so that the second tank and aerobic bacteria is added to the mixture in the second tank, wherein the second tank has an aeration blower so as to make oxygen available to the aerobic bacteria. The mixture is held in the second tank until the mixture reaches aerobic equilibrium with a pH between about 7 and about 8. After reaching this equilibrium, the wastewater can be used in up to 100% makeup to prepare high quality corrugating adhesive of consistent paramenters for viscosity and gelatinization temperature.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1992Date of Patent: June 29, 1993Assignee: Inland Container CorporationInventors: John H. Patent number: 5139195Abstract: Carton apparatus includes lid members having locking tabs received in pockets formed in triple layer sidewalls. The intermediate layer of the sidewall defines a recess for receiving the locking tab, and forms a pocket when inner and outer sidewall layers are brought into contact with the intermediate sidewall layer. The intermediate sidewall layer includes locking edges which engage locking edges on the locking tabs. The tab-receiving pockets may be either open or closed.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1991Date of Patent: August 18, 1992Assignee: Inland Container CorporationInventor: Jack A. McClure

Patent number: 5104035Abstract: A carton having a tubular body with a pair of opposed sidewalls and a pair of opposed endwalls, with end panels and side panels for a closure extending therefrom. At least one end panel is hinged to an endwall and has a free edge defining a pair of spaced notches with a retention flap therebetween, thereby forming a pair of locking tabs, one at each free corner of the end panel. At least one hinged tab is struck out from each side panel. The hinged tab includes a tab hinge line and a double-ended severing line extending to spaced apart portions of the tab hinge line so as to form a tab which is swingable out of the plane of the side panel, thereby exposing a locking edge of the side panel formed by the severing line. The locking tabs of the end panel deflect the hinge tabs into the interior of the carton to form recesses in the side panels into which the locking tabs are inserted so that the locking edge of the tab engages the locking edge of the side panel.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1990Date of Patent: April 14, 1992Assignee: Inland Container CorporationInventor: John W. Rosenbaum, II
-
Patent number: 5046662Abstract: A carton includes a tubular body with a pair of opposed sidewalls and a pair of opposed endwalls. A closure extending from the sidewalls and endwalls includes end panels and side panels joined to the endwalls and sidewalls with hinge lines. The end panels have a discontinuous free edge which extends across a pair of free corners. A recessed edge is located between the free corners and defines a pair of U-shaped locking edge portions on either side of a generally arcuate intermediate portion. A pair of locking recesses are formed in each side panel, each recess including an arcuate edge portion spanning a generally truncated V-shaped edge portion. The recessed edge of the end panels engages the locking recesses of the side panels to lock the carton closure.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1990Date of Patent: September 10, 1991Assignee: Inland Container CorporationInventor: Dean E. Patent number: 5000377Abstract: An integral carton blank from which a carton is formed having an end with three upstanding carton walls forming a pair of spaced-apart outside corners with reinforcing corners nested within each outside corner. The reinforcing corners are formed of reinforcing shoulders integrally joined to the end walls of the carton. Each reinforcing shoulder has three panel portions, two overlying a side wall and one overlying an end wall. Substantial portions of the panels of the reinforcing shoulder engage a floor of the carton to provide improved compressive strength.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1990Date of Patent: March 19, 1991Assignee: Inland Container CorporationInventor: Jack A. McClure

Patent number: 4981254Abstract: A carton having a tubular body is provided with an automatic, or nearly automatic, folding top construction, having triple-thickness handles at opposed ends of the carton, upstanding above the carton closure flaps. Two of the three thickness portions of the handles are hinged to the closure flaps and are automatically formed as the closure flaps are folded to a closed position. The remaining layer of the handles includes a hinged flap swung into position overlying the handle layers. As the third layer is swung into position, locking tabs carried by the third layer are received in recesses on the major closure flaps, thus locking the handles and the major closure flaps in a fully closed position.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1990Date of Patent: January 1, 1991Assignee: Inland Container CorporationInventor: John T. Depper
