  • Patent number: 10584653
Abstract: A system includes a control system configured to monitor operating conditions in at least a first cylinder of a reciprocating engine and to control the reciprocating engine, wherein the control system includes a first sensor configured to monitor a first type of operating condition of the first cylinder, and a controller communicatively coupled with the first sensor. The controller is configured to receive a first signal indicative of a first measurement of the first type of operating condition from the first sensor; analyze the first signal to detect a misfire condition in the first cylinder; derive an amount of residual gas in the first cylinder if the misfire condition is detected; and adjust control of the reciprocating engine based on the amount of residual gas.

  • Patent number: 10570874
Abstract: A method of operating an internal combustion engine with at least one piston-cylinder unit, and preferably a plurality of the piston-cylinder units, whereby, in a detection mode of the internal combustion engine one or more knock-promoting measures are taken until knocking has occurred in at least one piston-cylinder unit, and the measure(s) is/are intensified until a termination criterion is reached, whereby it is detected in which of the piston-cylinder units knocking has occurred, and whereby, in piston-cylinder units detected as knocking, the ignition time for a normal operating mode of the internal combustion engine is retarded.

  • Patent number: 10563603
Abstract: A method of controlling an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders, in particular a stationary internal combustion engine, wherein actuators of the internal combustion engine are actuable in crank angle-dependent relationship and/or sensor signals of the internal combustion engine can be ascertained in crank angle-dependent relationship, for compensation of a torsion of a crankshaft, by which torsion deviations in the crank angle occur between a twisted and an untwisted condition of the crankshaft, wherein for at least two of the cylinders a cylinder-individual value of the angle deviation is ascertained and the crank angle-dependent actuator or sensor signals are corrected in dependence on the detected angle deviation.

  • Patent number: 10458299
Abstract: An exhaust gas aftertreatment apparatus for an internal combustion engine, in particular a stationary internal combustion engine having at least one catalyst unit for exhaust gases, which is arranged downstream of the internal combustion engine. Exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine can be taken past the at least one catalyst unit by way of a bypass conduit, and the at least one catalyst unit and the bypass conduit are arranged in a common housing. The housing has at least two separate feed conduits for untreated exhaust gas and at least one outlet conduit for exhaust gas treated by the at least one catalyst unit.

  • Patent number: 10385787
Abstract: A method of regulating an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders is provided, wherein each of the individual cylinders can be deactivated in accordance with a predeterminable pattern depending on a required power output, wherein the predeterminable pattern comprises a time sequence of commands for ignition and commands for skipping ignition, and wherein the predeterminable pattern is derived with a calculation specification in such a way that spacing between the individual cylinders intended for skipping in relation to a firing order is an odd number and is preferably in coprime relationship with the number of cylinders.

  • Patent number: 10352259
Abstract: A dual-fuel internal combustion engine with a device for regulating the internal combustion engine, with at least two piston-cylinders, a fuel injector assigned to the piston-cylinder units for a liquid fuel, which has an injector needle. Each piston-cylinder unit has a gas supply device for fuel, wherein the regulating device controls the fuel injector and the at least one gas supply device individually for metering of the quantity of the liquid or gaseous fuel supplied to each piston-cylinder unit. At least one needle sensor is connected to the regulating device and assigned to the respective piston-cylinder unit, which detects a characteristic signal of the needle position in the ballistic range, so that the fuel injector can be operated with individual controllability for each of the at least two piston-cylinder units for the regulation of the supplied fuel quantity in the ballistic range.

  • Patent number: 10323598
Abstract: A method includes forming a combustible mixture by mixing generally homogeneously a first fuel and air and introducing this mixture into a cylinder, compressing the combustible mixture with a piston in a compression stroke, introducing a second fuel into a prechamber at an introduction-time before start of combustion thus creating a prechamber charge, in which the second fuel being of the same or different chemical composition and/or concentration with respect to the first fuel, and spark igniting the prechamber charge. Emission of the cylinder and/or mechanical stress of the cylinder caused by the combustion are monitored. If emissions and/or mechanical stress are above respective predetermined thresholds, individually for the at least one cylinder, the chemical composition and/or the amount of second fuel introduced into the prechamber, and/or temperature of the cylinder charge and/or spark timing, are changed.
