  • Patent number: 7380852
Abstract: An overhead console for motor vehicles and the like includes a storage bin configured to support and store sunglasses. The bin is movably mounted to the base for movement between an opened position and a closed position. The storage bin includes a body made of a substantially rigid polymer material forming a cavity for storing sunglasses. An elastomeric material is molded to the body of the storage bin, and provides a soft surface on the inner side of the body to support sunglasses. The polymer material of the body forms walls having one or more apertures therethrough, and the elastomeric material extends through the apertures to mechanically connect the elastomeric material to the body of the storage bin.

Abstract: A visor for vehicles and the like includes a core made of a meltable material. The core includes first and second halves that are interconnected by a connecting arrangement that includes posts that are frictionally received in openings. The posts may form an interference fit with the openings, such that the visor core material melts as the posts are pressed into the openings to thereby weld the core material at the connectors together and interconnect the halves of the visor core.

  • Publication number: 20030236574
Abstract: The composition as described serves for in vivo cartilage repair. It basically consists of a naturally derived osteoinductive and/or chondroinductive mixture of factors (e.g. derived from bone) or of a synthetic mimic of such a mixture combined with a nanosphere delivery system. A preferred mixture of factors is the combination of factors isolated from bone, known as BP and described by Poser and Benedict (WO 95/13767). The nanosphere delivery system consists of nanospheres defined as polymer particles of less than 1000 nm in diameter (whereby the majority of particles preferably ranges between 200-400 nm) in which nanospheres the combination of factors is encapsulated. The nano-spheres are loaded with the mixture of factors in a weight ratio of 0.001 to 17% (w/w), preferably of 1 to 4% (w/w) and have a release profile with an initial burst of 10 to 20% of the total load over the first 24 hours and a long time release of at least 0.1 per day during at least seven following days.

  • Patent number: 6482076
Abstract: In the method for producing a surface structure, material is ablated by means of a liquid jet (1). The jet (1) is emitted from a nozzle (10) under high pressure (p). In this an ablation location (3) is controlledly moved on a surface (20a) of a substrate (20) to be structured with the production of a predetermined macro-topography (2′) or a largely planar surface, namely through moving the nozzle and/or the substrate. The substrate is in particular part of a surgical implant. The liquid of the high pressure jet (1) is emitted at a predetermined diameter d of the nozzle with a sufficiently high pressure p so that through the material ablation a linear track (2) with quasi-fractal micro-topography (4) is produced. In this the track width D is at least twice as large as d. Values for p and d are provided in the following range: 100 bar<p<3000 bar and 0.1 mm<d<10 mm; or p>3000 bar and d>0.03 mm.

  • Patent number: 6408906
Abstract: Apparatus (10) having special application for gripping and cutting tree limbs around utility lines includes a tubular insert (18) slideably received in the free end of a tubular boom (12). A plate (28) is pivoted about a first pivot axis relative to the insert (18) by a linearly extendable actuator (36) mounted within the insert (18) and mounts a first rotary actuator (38). A second rotary actuator (58) is mounted to a U-shaped mount (48) which is pivoted about a second pivot axis to the first rotary actuator (38) and rotates a working head (96) 360° about a third pivot axis. Gripping arms (78) are fixed to shafts (74) rotatably mounted in the working head (96) about axes perpendicular to the third axis, with the shafts (74) being rotated by a single linearly extendable actuator (82) extending between crank arms (80) fixed to the shafts (74). The crank arms (80) abut with an abutment (84) to prevent only one set of gripping arms (78) from moving.

  • Patent number: 6382697
Abstract: A stamped reinforced visor elbow having a metal reinforcing member that holds electrical conductors encased in a molded polymeric material. The reinforcing member is generally U-shaped in cross section and can be formed by stamping. The reinforcing member provides support for the visor elbow while providing a channel for electrical conductors. The reinforced visor elbow is made by forming a metal reinforcing member through a stamping die, placing one or more conductors into a recess created in the reinforcing member and the steps of molding a polymeric material over the reinforcing member while holding the wires to form the reinforced visor elbow.

  • Patent number: 6372294
Abstract: The method for the manufacture of unidirectionally fiber reinforced thermoplastic bands comprises a pressure impregnation of a fiber strand in a bath with a dispersion of thermoplastic particles. Heat treatments for the drying of the strand and a melting on of the particles taken up by the strand follow the pressure impregnation. The strand is drawn through the bath at a predetermined draw-off speed about a plurality of deflection elements. The dispersion of the bath is largely held in a stationary state, namely through the supply of an infeed dispersion with a first particle concentration and through an initial setting of a second particle concentration in the bath: The infeed dispersion is fed in continuously or periodically, with the first particle concentration being held constant. A corresponding feeding in of a dispersion of higher particle concentrations as well as an additional amount of dispersing medium is possible.
