    Abstract: A folding ballistic shield is provided that has two panels connected along a vertical line that open to less than 180 degrees via an offset coupling mechanism such that the panels also overlap slightly to prevent any gap or ballistically weak area. A pair of grip handles and arm braces or supports on each panel allow users to more easily support the shield with either his or her left or right hand/arm.
