Publication number: 20110253589Abstract: A package for holding and protecting a can includes a six-wall, eight-corner box and inserts in the box where they capture the can at each end of the box. Each insert includes a paper honeycomb panel that corresponds in shape to the cross-sectional shape of the interior of the box and a rigid backing that is attached firmly to one face of the panel. The backing is die cut to provide a segment that corresponds in shape to the ends of the can, with the cut extending partially into the honeycomb cells as well. The cut segment of the backing is forced into the underlying honeycomb cells to provide a pocket that snugly receives an end of the can and a pad behind the pocket. Multiple inserts may be derived from a slab having intermittent cuts at which individual inserts may be detached.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 14, 2011Publication date: October 20, 2011Applicant: Innovative Enterprises, IncInventors: H. Patent number: 6092654Abstract: A package for a compressor having a base to which a shell is attached includes a box having side walls and also a bottom wall and a top wall formed from overlying flaps. In addition, the package includes a rigid base formed from overlying panels of slab-like paperboard material. The panels fold relative to each other, and the upper of the two panels contains a cutout which enables that panel to pass over the compressor shell, or over the compressor base, to a position overlying the compressor base. Once the upper panel is over the compressor base, the lower panel is folded under the compressor base so that the compressor base is captured between the two panels of the package base. In this condition the compressor and the package base are inserted into the box. The package base comes to rest against the bottom wall of the box. A sleeve fits around the shell of the compressor and extends between the upper panel of the package base and the upper wall of the box.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1999Date of Patent: July 25, 2000Assignee: Innovative Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Peter W. Patent number: 6044974Abstract: Matched and mated machine components, such as those on which the scrolls of scroll-type compressors are located, are fitted together, yet physically isolated from each other, by separators that are formed from corrugated paperboard. Each separator has a planar peripheral portion, which lies between and faces end surfaces on the mating components, and fingers which fit between the interfitting segments. The sets of mating machine components are placed on pads formed from paper honeycomb material, and these pads have pockets which receive one component of each set and prevent the components from shifting laterally. The pockets are derived by die cutting the honeycomb material through one of its facer sheets and then crushing the cells that lie within the cut. The pads with the sets of mating, yet isolated, components on them are stacked one upon the other. A tray lies beneath the stack and a cover fits over it and telescopes with respect to the tray to completely enclose the stack.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1998Date of Patent: April 4, 2000Assignee: Innovative Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: H. Patent number: 5749513Abstract: A box has front and back walls and a bottom wall extended between the lower margins of those walls. It also has side walls that are attached to the front and back walls and close the sides of the box. Each side wall contains two panels which are joined together at a manufacturer's joint midway between the front and back walls to create a column within the side wall. The column extends all the way to the bottom wall and enhances the strength of the side wall. In one embodiment the columns in the side walls support a beam that extends through the box and items may be suspended from the beam. In another embodiment, the bottom wall folds, as do the side walls at their columns, so that the box may be supplied in a knocked-down condition.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1996Date of Patent: May 12, 1998Assignee: Innovative Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Buford R. Patent number: 5175041Abstract: A corner protector, which is formed entirely from paper honeycomb material, fits between the corner of a container and the corner of a relatively rigid object in the container and thereby positions the object within the container and protects it from impacts to which the container may be subjected. The corner protector, when in its assembled configuration, has at least three panels which are arranged perpendicular to each other. Being formed from paper honeycomb material, each panel has inner and outer facer sheets and honeycomb cells interposed between the facer sheets, with the axes of the cells being perpedicular to the facer sheets. The three panels share a common outer facer sheet, with the first and third panels being joined to the second panel along fold lines in that facer sheet. However, the inner facer sheets of the three panels are clearly distinguishable by reason of slit lines that separate them.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1991Date of Patent: December 29, 1992Assignee: Innovative Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: H. Patent number: 4319530Abstract: A pallet includes a rectangular deck and also runners and pads which are made of a paper honeycomb material and are attached to the underside of the deck to support the deck in an elevated position above a floor, a wood pallet, or some other supporting surface. The runners extend along the sides of the deck for the full length of the deck. The pads, on the other hand, are located between the runners, there being an end pad along each end of the deck and a center pad between the two end pads. Entry slots exist between the pads and runners for the full length of the pallet, and these slots are capable of accommodating the tines of a forklift. Furthermore, the end pads are separated from the center pad by cross channels, which align with sections of the runners that are easily displaced from the remaining portions of the runners under the application of a laterally directed force.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1980Date of Patent: March 16, 1982Assignee: Innovative Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: John F.
