Abstract: The present inventive subject matter describes a device and system for positioning, adjusting, and stretching a patient's extremity for surgical procedures where alignment is critical and minute adjustments may be required repeatedly. The device helps in maintaining the patient's extremity stationary, once the physician has selected the precise position for the elected procedure. The device uses using a combination of an articulating and a rotating frame, support plates and support rings that are attached to the extremity surgical positioning system. The system acts as a limb splint that is firmly attached to the surgical table. The support plates are attached to the patient via a series of adjustable straps preventing the extremity from moving independently of the support plate. A locking rack and gear configuration has adjustable locking pivot points that are positioned along and within the outer/inner proximal tube and outer/inner distal tube that lengthens or rotates various portions of the extremity.

  • Publication number: 20170252249
Abstract: A modular surgical patient positioner unit apparatus, system and method for adjustably positioning human joints such as knees for surgical operating procedures having a base plate to support moveably a transformable carriage that can be releasably locked in position and which adjustably supports a boot or other limb holder which can be releasably locked in position by the carriage. The base plate also is configured with a side bar located at a mid-portion of the base plate to secure to an arc clamp configured to secure the positioning system to a side rail of an operating table in a medical procedure on the left or right side of the body. An extension unit also is provided and configured to secure to a lower surface of the base plate to extend the base plate of the system, as needed, for larger limbs of patients, which extension unit is configured with a stud and post locking portions for securing to the base plate and for positioning in a medical procedure on either side of the body.

  • Publication number: 20170239118
Abstract: A pad assembly, system and method of securing a patient onto an operating table when the patient is in the Trendelenburg position. The pad assembly and system is used to support and hold a patient on a medical procedure table during a medical procedure performed while the table, and thus the patient lying thereon, is in an inclined position, such as the Trendelenburg position. The pad assembly and system has characteristics which promote improved securing to eliminate shifting and/or sliding due to gravitational forces when the patient's body is in the Trendelenburg position, as well as promote a secure holding of the patient in a desired position on the table, in order to minimize injury to the patient. The pad assembly and system further has improved channels to allow for drainage of fluids that may otherwise be trapped between the patient's body and the OR Table during the surgical procedure.

  • Publication number: 20170049654
Abstract: A sterile pressure pad assembly system, kit and method uses a cage assembly comprising an enclosure and a pad assembly configured as a generally rectangular pad disposed adjacent the patient's limb near the joint to be extended and/or distended. The pad may be affixed by adhesive to the outer surface of an arcuate side and formed from suitable foam and cell structure materials that can be sterilized such as, for example, polyurethane-based foam. The enclosure of the cage assembly is configured with one or more ridges to sufficiently optimize a material strength to the arcuate side of the enclosure so as to not crush under pressure from the surgical distractor unit and/or the weight of the patient's limb of the patient when the sterile cage assembly and pad support a limb of a patient on a support bar as a surgical distractor unit positions the pad in abutment with a popliteal area of a patient's knee joint during a medical procedure.

  • Publication number: 20170042742
Abstract: An article of manufacture for a bony prominence under casts, splints and or other devices utilized to hold the limb in a fixed position for an extended period of time. The article consists of a pressure relieving pad from a base substrate with a predetermined design formed from a gel material with an adhesive quality. In another embodiment, the article consists of a pressure relieving pad formed from a gel material base substrate combined with a fibrous substrate with a predetermined design of the pressure relieving pad. Each article includes at least one ventilation channel cut through the base substrate and/or fibrous substrate, e.g. the ventilation channel may have a single or multiple cut incision. The ventilation channel functioning to increase the padding around the base of the prominence thereby providing extended comfort and fitting of a rigid splint, cast or other fixing device.
