Patent number: 11674552Abstract: A tensioning arrangement for a bearing ring, which introduces a compressive force towards a rotational centre of the bearing ring, to prevent the bearing ring distorting as a shaft supported by the bearing turns. The tensioner arrangement includes a strap and a tensioner. The strap has a connector at each end, and tensioner has an element for connecting to the connectors. The tensioner also has an element for applying tension to the strap. In use, the strap is arranged around the bearing ring and a circumferential length of the strap in contact with the bearing ring is reduced, thereby applying compressive force to the bearing ring.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2022Date of Patent: June 13, 2023Assignee: Insight Analytics Solutions Holdings LimitedInventors: Colin McNichols, Chad Phillip Glinsky, Ashley Crowther

Patent number: 10584680Abstract: A method for modifying the power output of a wind turbine generator. The power output of a wind turbine generator can be modified based on the rate of fatigue and/or damage calculated for components within the wind turbine generator. Damage and/or fatigue can be calculated based on current or predicted future operating conditions. The turbine operation can be modified if the cost of damage and/or cost of fatigue is less than a value for the electricity produced. In this case, the rate of fatigue is calculated using models of the wind turbine generator or its components, where the model may be based on a metamodel or by an Equivalent Operating Hours approach.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2013Date of Patent: March 10, 2020Assignee: INSIGHT ANALYTICS SOLUTIONS HOLDINGS LIMITEDInventor: John Karl Coultate

Patent number: 10527520Abstract: A method for predicting remaining useful life of a wind or water turbine or component determines in step 116 an EOH for the turbine or component and compares this in step 118 to an EOH limit obtained in step 114. This provides a simple approach to estimating remaining useful life, giving the turbine operator an indication of the condition of turbines or farms under management.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2017Date of Patent: January 7, 2020Assignee: INSIGHT ANALYTICS SOLUTIONS HOLDINGS LIMITEDInventors: Andy Poon, Xiaoqin Ma, John Karl Coultate, Evgenia Golysheva

Patent number: 10036424Abstract: A method is disclosed for replacing grease in a main bearing of a wind turbine, the main bearing located in a housing and the housing having least one cover plate. the bearing cover plate is removed from the housing, grease is manually removed from the main bearing, and a flushing cover is installed on the housing in place of the bearing cover plate. The flushing cover has at least two parts, the parts fitting around the main shaft, and each part having a seal so that when its attached to the bearing housing, the flushing cover forms a seal with the main shaft. The flushing cover has holes allowing access to the main bearing, and a solvent or oil is sprayed via one of the holes onto the main bearing to remove grease, the remaining holes being sealed by a removable plug. Solvent or oil is pumped out of the housing via a port at the bottom of the housing or flushing cover.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2015Date of Patent: July 31, 2018Assignee: INSIGHT ANALYTICS SOLUTIONS HOLDINGS LIMITEDInventors: Richard Smith, Ashley Crowther, Jesse Harris Graeter, Scott Macindoe, Michael Ulfert Homemann

Patent number: 9976541Abstract: A greased-based lubrication system for a main bearing arrangement of a wind turbine can be replaced with an oil-based lubrication system by: disconnecting an upwind bearing cover 12 and/or a downwind bearing cover 12 from the bearing housing 10; cleaning grease from the bearing arrangement; connecting an upwind oil drain cover 14 to the upwind side of the bearing housing 10; and connecting a downwind oil drain cover 14 to the downwind side of the bearing housing 10. At least one of the upwind oil drain cover 14 and the downwind oil drain cover 14 include one or more outlets for an oil-based lubricant. Further steps include: connecting the one or more outlets to an oil-based lubrication system; and introducing oil-based lubricant into the bearing arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2014Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Assignee: INSIGHT ANALYTICS SOLUTIONS HOLDINGS LIMITEDInventor: Richard Smith
