Publication number: 20150351950Abstract: An oral securement appliance is described having a support frame defining a first receiving channel, a distal end of the support frame defining a first opening therethrough, and a valve positioned within or through the first opening. An outer layer may be positioned within the first receiving channel and define a second receiving channel, a distal end of the outer layer defining a second opening in fluid communication with the valve. The device further includes a shell assembly and a cuff member positioned within the second receiving channel and defines a third receiving channel configured for receiving a tongue of the subject. At least an anterior portion of the subject's tongue is inserted within the third receiving channel of the cuff member and a negative pressure drawn within the third receiving channel via the valve such that the cuff member is secured around a periphery of the tongue.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 10, 2014Publication date: December 10, 2015Applicant: Insono Therapeutics, IncInventors: Anant V. Patent number: 8857439Abstract: A variably automated tissue retention system generally comprises an oral appliance retractably coupled to a covering which is secured to an anterior portion of the tongue. As the subject moves their tongue naturally or sleeps and the tongue becomes hypotonic, the subject's tongue may move posteriorly. As the covering pulls the tongue anteriorly or maintains a position of the tongue, the base of the tongue may be inhibited or prevented from collapsing posteriorly against the pharyngeal tissue walls and thereby allow the subject to breathe normally by automatically increasing the suction pressure on the tongue to maintain securement of the covering to the tongue as the tongue moves posteriorly.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2010Date of Patent: October 14, 2014Assignee: Insono Therapeutics, Inc.Inventors: Anant V. Publication number: 20140130808Abstract: A mandibular advancement appliance is described which is secured to a subject's dentition. The appliance may adjust a position of the subject's lower dentition relative to the upper dentition while maintaining a distance between the upper and lower dentition. The appliance may also allow for the free rotation of the lower dentition relative to the upper dentition for increased comfort. Additionally, the appliance may also be utilized with a tongue retention assembly for maintaining a position of the subject's tongue relative to the device for treating sleep disordered breathing.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2013Publication date: May 15, 2014Applicant: Insono Therapeutics, Inc.Inventors: Anant V. Publication number: 20130092176Abstract: An automated tissue retention system generally comprises an oral appliance retractably coupled to a covering which is secured to an anterior portion of the tongue. Once placed within a subject's mouth, the appliance may be maintained in a closed configuration while the subject's mouth remains closed. However, as the subject sleeps and the tongue becomes hypotonic, the subject's month typically opens during a sleep disordered event. The appliance may be actuated by the separation between the mandible and maxilla to have greater tension and thus retract or pull anteriorly the covering adhered to the tongue. As the covering pulls the tongue anteriorly or maintains a position of the tongue, the base of the tongue may be inhibited or prevented from collapsing posteriorly against the phryngeal tissue walls and thereby allow the subject to breathe normally.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 3, 2012Publication date: April 18, 2013Applicant: INSONO THERAPEUTICS, INC.Inventor: Insono Therapeutics, Inc.
