  • Patent number: 10426395
Abstract: The present system is directed in various embodiments to devices, systems and methods for detection, evaluation and/or monitoring olfactory dysfunction by measuring and determining the patient's olfactory detection threshold for the left and the right nostril. More specifically, the present invention relates to devices, systems and methods for detecting an asymmetric differential in a patient's olfactory detection threshold (left vs right nostril) which, when present, may be used as a tool to screen, detect, diagnose and/or monitor relative olfactory deterioration resulting from Alzheimer's disease. A preferred embodiment comprises cascading aromas by serially administering more than one pure odorant to the patient's nostrils, left vs right, with measurement of the time, or numbers of breaths, required to cognitively notice the pure odorants' presence.

  • Publication number: 20100313885
Abstract: A method for delivering a dose of a gaseous drug to a patient with a respiratory disorder including powering a control circuit via a power supply, determining a normal resting breath rate for the patient via the control circuit, determining a current breath rate for the patient via the control circuit, comparing the current breath rate to the normal resting breath rate; determining a dose of the gaseous drug for the patient based on the comparison, positioning a spool valve within a spool valve assembly; and delivering the determined dose through the low flow valve, the high flow valve, and/or a combination of the low flow valve and the high flow valve, and the continuous flow valve based on the position of a spool valve. The control circuit may control a low flow valve, a high flow valve, and a continuous flow valve.

  • Publication number: 20100313888
Abstract: A spool valve assembly for a gaseous drug delivery device includes a housing, a gas inlet, a continuous flow orifice, a valve outlet, a valve mounting surface, a spool valve, a patient outlet, an exhaust chamber with a pressure sensor detecting inhalation and a gaseous drug path to the patient, and a control circuit connected to the pressure sensor. The gas inlet includes a port connected to a gaseous drug supply, with a first portion inside the housing and a second portion outside the housing. The valve mounting surface includes a mount for a high flow valve and a low flow valve, with the valve mounting surface between the gas inlet and the valve outlet. The spool valve includes a knob, an outer surface, sealing members and a counter bore, with a first portion of the knob inside the housing and a second portion outside the housing.

  • Patent number: 7757728
Abstract: A funnel with a shut-off valve terminates the flow of fluid from a reservoir to a spout passageway upon activation of the shut-off valve. The flow of fluid is terminated when a float contacts a seal mounted within the spout passageway. An upper magnet is mounted above the seal and a lower magnet is attached to the float, a portion of which extends over the lower magnet. In the open position, the force provided between the magnets serves to provide lift to the float. When the fluid level in the container rises, additional lift is provided until the lower magnet comes sufficiently within the range of the upper magnet causing the lower magnet to be drawn to the upper magnet. The force between the magnets is sufficient to provide compression of the seal by the float. A ball joint is provided between a control rod and the float to correct misalignment between the float and the seal.
