  • Patent number: 7506259
Abstract: A system and method for enabling user preferences and device characteristics to be used to generate a customized interface for services and particularly, for enabling interaction between heterogeneous mobile devices and services in a local environment through one's device. The system automates the creation of custom mobile interfaces for service interaction, since the author of a service is typically unaware of the different types of devices that will utilize the service. The method includes communicating, when a service is invoked, the input capabilities of the device to a service broker along with preferences of the user. The characteristics and functionality of the service is included in the specification of the service. A mapping function maps the triad of user preferences, device description, and service functions to optimize the placement of the services' functions (interfaces) on to the device's input controls while taking the user preferences and device output controls into account.

  • Patent number: 7430186
Abstract: An apparatus, method and computer readable device for providing spatial information in a sensor network. The sensor network comprises a plurality of sensors and a plurality of actuators, each sensors and actuators have a unique id and a known spatial location within a spatially-bounded zone and a database is provided for storing the location each sensor and actuator. A spatial-processor generates a plurality of context zones based upon the information contained in the location database to provide actuator coverage for the spatially-bounded zone. Each context zone is generated by assigning a subset of the plurality of sensors as a spatial boundary of each context zone and by deploying a subset of the plurality of actuators into one or more context zones. In operation, the spatial-processor determines if an actuator has failed in context zone and redeploys one or more actuators from another intersecting context zone to the context zone containing the non-operational actuator.

  • Patent number: 7355812
Abstract: A disk drive having an anti-shock structure is provided. The disk drive includes: a base member; a spindle motor supported by a spindle motor support formed on the base member, the spindle motor rotating a data storage disk; an actuator rotatably coupled to an actuator pivot supported by a pivot support formed on the base member, the actuator moving a read/write head to a position on a recording surface of the disk; and slots formed in the base member around the circumference of each of the spindle motor support and the pivot support, the slots for partially controlling the stiffness of the base member. The slots include a first slot formed on a circumference region of the spindle motor support near the pivot support, and a second slot formed on a circumference region of the pivot support opposite to the spindle motor support. Due to the structure of the disk drive, the spindle motor and the actuator pivot are inclined in the same direction when an external impact is applied.
