Abstract: A method of operating an dedicated exhaust gas recirculation engine including a water gas shift catalyst by supplying ambient air and fuel to a dedicated cylinder at a first fuel to air equivalence ratio in the range of greater than 1.0 to 1.6 for a first number of engine cycles and, for a second number of engine cycles, supplying ambient air and fuel to the dedicated cylinder at a second fuel to air equivalence ratio in the range of 0.7 to less than 1.0. During the second number of cycles, spark timing of the dedicated cylinder is adjusted and a time delay when exhaust recirculated from the dedicated cylinder will be inducted into the cylinders is determined. At the end of the time delay, a second spark timing of the main cylinder is adjusted and the amount of fuel supplied to the main cylinders is increased.

Abstract: Bone- and metal-targeted polymeric nanoparticles are provided. Exemplary nanoparticles have three main components: 1) a targeting element that can selectively bind to bone, minerals, or metal ions; 2) a layer of stealth to allow the polymer to evade immune response; and 3) a biodegradable polymeric material, forming an inner core which can carry therapeutics or other diagnostics. Preferred nanoparticles contain a blend of target-element polymer conjugate and polymer that optimizes the ligand density on the surface of the nanoparticle to provide improved targeting of the nanoparticle. The ratio of target-element polymer conjugate to polymer can also be optimized to improve the half-life of the nanoparticles in the blood of the subject. The nanoparticles also exhibit prolonged, sustained release of therapeutic agents loaded into the particles.

Abstract: An ionic liquid ion source can include a microfabricated body including a base and a tip. Abstract: A method for detecting an intrusion in a network is disclosed. The network includes a plurality of nodes for data transmission/reception and switches for relaying flow transmission/reception between the nodes, and an intrusion detection system (IDS) is combined with the network to form a system The method includes: installing SDN-enabled switches for flow sampling in the network to connect them to SDN controllers; determining, by the SDN controller, the number of network flows and the number of switches; deriving a sampling rate for each of the SDN-enabled switches; forwarding, by the switches, packet information sampled at respective sampling rates to the IDS; and identifying, by the IDS, malicious data based on the packet information to update the sampling rate of each of the SDN switches.
