Abstract: A noninvasive method of source-sink regulation in rice belongs to the technical field of rice production. In this method, the source-sink relationship is regulated by a rice sterile line and its identical type of maintaining line being subjected to mixed-planting and insulated pollination, or sowing and transplanting at different times and insulated pollination, so as to construct rice plant samples with gradient difference of source-sink levels. The present invention is a kind of native, natural noninvasive method of source-sink regulation, which could broaden the traditional thinking of source-sink theoretical research, especially overcome the deficiency in conventional methods such as leaf-cutting, spikelet-thinning that lead to physical injury or physiological interference.
Abstract: Provided is a method for manufacturing a silicon nanowire array comprising the steps of: positioning plastic particles separated apart from one another in a uniform random pattern on a silicon substrate; forming a catalyst layer between the plastic particles; removing the plastic particles; vertically etching portions of the silicon substrate that contact the catalyst layer; and removing the catalyst layer. The present invention provides a simple and cost-effective process, enables mass-production through large surface area processing, enables the manufacture of nanowire even at a site having limited resources, and enables the structures of nanowire to be individually controlled.

Abstract: Systems and methods for imaging characteristics of a sample and for identifying regions of damage in the sample are generally described. Some example systems and methods for non-destructive evaluation of regions of material may operate in a direct current (DC) mode in which the system directly images regions of material where weak structural damage has occurred by imaging a self magnetic field generated by a DC electric current coupled through the material. Some example systems may operate in an alternating current (AC) mode to image regions of material where damage has occurred by generating a time varying magnetic field due to AC excitation coils inducing eddy currents in the sample, and imaging a magnetic field generated by the eddy currents around the regions of damage. The systems may use magneto-optical imaging techniques (MOI) to measure and map the magnetic field and channels of current flow in the material, for example.

Abstract: A protocol, server and client producing high performance web service with security and lower power requirements. A web protocol retrofits web browsers with a translating program on the client to relay the messages to the server with less bandwidth. Optionally, the protocol is embedded within a custom browser to communicate directly, eliminating translation and layers of programming. By storing web pages in a binary format and skipping the intermediate representation of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript the size of the web page, and the time it takes to display it can be reduced. The elimination of JavaScript also increases security because JavaScript is a known, common source of attacks. Communication of static data is minimized. A key repository and automated client use thereof may eliminate manual entry and transmission of access credentials making phishing attacks impossible.
