Abstract: A filtration device including a contoured support having 1) an interior surface, 2) an outside peripheral surface spaced farther from a center of the contoured support than the interior surface, and 3) a rim enclosed and sealed to a perimeter of the contoured support. The filtration device includes macroscopic openings in the contoured support extending from the interior surface to the outside peripheral surface, and a plurality of nanofibers having diameters less than 1 micron. The nanofibers are disposed on the outside peripheral surface of the contoured support, and cover the macroscopic openings to form a filtration medium on the contoured support.

Abstract: Thermal energy storage apparatus, controllers and thermal energy storage control methods are described. According to one aspect, a thermal energy storage apparatus controller includes processing circuitry configured to access first information which is indicative of surpluses and deficiencies of electrical energy upon an electrical power system at a plurality of moments in time, access second information which is indicative of temperature of a thermal energy storage medium at a plurality of moments in time, and use the first and second information to control an amount of electrical energy which is utilized by a heating element to heat the thermal energy storage medium at a plurality of moments in time.

Abstract: A BPF connected to a pulse wave generator has a bandwidth encompassing the fluctuation range of the resonance frequency of a helical antenna. As a result, even if the resonance frequency of the helical antenna fluctuates by a human body approaching the helical antenna, one or a number of a plurality of frequencies of signals passing through the BPF can pass through the bandwidth of the helical antenna.
Abstract: In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for estimating quantiles for data stored in a distributed system. In one embodiment, an instruction is received to estimate a specified quantile for a variate in a set of data stored at a plurality of nodes in the distributed system. A plurality of data bins for the variate are defined that are each associated with a different range of data values in the set of data. Lower and upper quantile bounds for each of the plurality of data bins are determined based on the total number of data values that fall within each of the plurality of data bins. The specified quantile is estimated based on an identified one of the plurality of data bins that includes the specified quantile based on the lower and upper quantile bounds.

Abstract: A frequency increasing processing method of a digital signal includes the following steps: S101, inputting a real signal trace collected in a certain period of time; S102, performing Hilbert transform on the real signal trace so as to obtain an instantaneous amplitude trace of the real signal trace; S103, based on the instantaneous amplitude trace, performing frequency increasing and polarity transform processing on the real signal trace so as to obtain a frequency increasing signal trace. Thus, a weak signal source can be identified without a large number of strong events. This shows advantages of environmental protection and cost reduction in the field of shale gas hydraulic fracturing micro-seismic monitoring. In addition, the zero polarity transform and frequency increasing processing in the present invention are simple in steps and are highly universal.
