Abstract: Provided in the present invention are anti-Mycoplasma spp. subunit vaccines, especially proteins suitable for being used as the active ingredient of the Mycoplasma spp. subunit vaccines, and a vaccine prepared therefrom. Upon experimenting, it is confirmed that the proteins can elicit an immune response having sufficient strength to avoid the infection of Mycoplasma spp. in pigs. The vaccine can comprise one of the aforementioned proteins as an active ingredient, or can comprise two or more of the proteins to form a form of cocktail vaccine. The vaccine of the present invention is not only more safe than conventional vaccines, but also has equivalent or even better immune effects.

Abstract: A feed liquid flows into a second-stage humidifier chamber to form a second-stage humidifier bath. A first remnant of the feed liquid from the second-stage humidifier chamber then flows into a first-stage humidifier chamber to form a first-stage humidifier bath having a temperature lower than that of the second-stage bath. A second remnant of the feed liquid is then removed from the first-stage humidifier. Meanwhile, a carrier gas is injected into and bubbled through the first-stage humidifier bath, collecting a vaporizable component in vapor form from the first remnant of the feed liquid to partially humidify the carrier gas. The partially humidified carrier gas is then bubbled through the second-stage humidifier bath, where the carrier gas collects more of the vaporizable component in vapor form from the feed liquid to further humidify the carrier gas before the humidified carrier gas is removed from the second-stage humidifier chamber.

The semiconductor region has a source access region between the gate and the source, a drain access region between the gate and the drain, and a channel region under the gate. The channel region under the gate has a maximum current-carrying capability that is lower than a maximum current-carrying capability of the source access region.
Abstract: A method for converting a biomass to a bio-oil includes providing a four-stroke internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder, at least one piston, and a crankshaft coupled to each of the at least one piston. The method also includes coupling a power source to the crankshaft in a manner such that the power source drives rotation of the crankshaft. The method also includes injecting a first mixture including a biomass and a non-oxidizing compression gas into one of the cylinders. The method also includes compressing and heating the first mixture during a compression stroke of the pistons. The compression and heating of the first mixture pyrolizes the biomass to produce a second mixture including a bio-oil and the compression gas. The method also includes decompressing and cooling the second mixture during an expansion stroke of the pistons. The decompression and cooling of the second mixture quenches secondary pyrolysis.

Abstract: Problems to be solved: To provide a sliding member capable of achieving low friction properties and low wearing properties under dry conditions (i.e., in the absence of a lubricant). Solution: A sliding member including: a sliding-element 1; and a sliding-element 2 which serves as a counterbody to the sliding-element 1, in which the sliding-element 1 is made of oxide ceramics and the sliding-element 2 is made of a thin film containing hydrogen and sp3/sp2-hybridized carbon. Advantages: The sliding member achieves low friction properties and low wearing properties and in which the friction coefficient is unrelated to the sliding speed.

Abstract: A method for amplifying and detecting microorganisms, such as species of Listeria, is described. The method utilizes gene-matched enrichment media and PCR-based detection. The enrichment media is spent media produced using a modified microorganism containing a plurality of mutations in a selected gene such that the modified microorganism does not contain the PCR signature. Thus, PCR detects only the amplified microorganism of interest, not the modified microorganism. Exemplary methods and kits for amplification and detection of Listeria species are described.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are an X-ray imaging apparatus and a method for the same. The X-ray imaging apparatus includes a kernel function setter configured to set a scatter kernel function in response to a scatter component included in first X-ray image data detected by an X-ray detector, and an image data corrector configured to generate second X-ray image data obtained by performing scatter correction on the first X-ray image data using the scatter kernel function and data consistency. According to the X-ray imaging apparatus and the control method for the same, scatter correction is performed by using data consistency so that accuracy of the scatter correction may be increased and an X-ray image may be generated based on the accuracy, thereby improving quality of the X-ray image.

Abstract: In exemplary implementations of this invention, a digital material comprising many discrete units is used to fabricate a sparse structure. The units are reversibly joined by elastic connections. Each unit comprises fiber-reinforced composite material. Each unit is small compared to the sparse structure as a whole. Likewise, in a sparse structure made from this digital material, the number of types of units is small compared to the total number of units. The digital material is anisotropic. This anisotropy may be due to different fiber orientations within each unit. Furthermore, different units in a single sparse structure may be oriented in different directions and in different, non-parallel planes. In some cases, the digital material is reinforced with carbon fibers, and connections between units are stronger than the units themselves. The small discrete units may be assembled into a strong, lightweight sparse structure, such as an airframe.
