  • Patent number: 7260746
Abstract: Described are techniques used for detection of inconsistent data structures. The state of a data structure is determined as “inconsistent” in accordance with a defined specification. In the event that a data structure is determined to be inconsistent, the data structure may be repaired. In the event that the repair fails in connection with a read or a write operation, the executing program may optionally take steps to allow the program to continue execution. In connection with a read operation, any value may be returned as a result of the read. In connection with a write operation, the data to be written is discarded such that no write of data is performed and program execution continues. The detection and repairs are determined in accordance with user specifications.

  • Patent number: 7258438
Abstract: A system for approximating flux density of light on a human retina. A housing has an opening allowing light to pass to inside the housing. A baffle coupled to the housing replicates a facial cutoff function response for the light inside the housing. Two detectors are positioned to detect the light inside the housing. One detector produces a photopic spectral response function of the light inside the housing that approximately replicates a spectral response of the foveal cones in the retina. Another detector produces a scotopic spectral response function of the light inside the housing that approximately replicates a spectral response of rods in the retina. A processor coupled to the detectors calculates a mesopic flux density of the light inside the housing based on the photopic and scotopic spectral response functions.

  • Patent number: 7258774
Abstract: A microfluidic device comprises pumps, valves, and fluid oscillation dampers. In a device employed for sorting, an entity is flowed by the pump along a flow channel through a detection region to a junction. Based upon an identity of the entity determined in the detection region, a waste or collection valve located on opposite branches of the flow channel at the junction are actuated, thereby routing the entity to either a waste pool or a collection pool. A damper structure may be located between the pump and the junction. The damper reduces the amplitude of oscillation pressure in the flow channel due to operation of the pump, thereby lessening oscillation in velocity of the entity during sorting process. The microfluidic device may be formed in a block of elastomer material, with thin membranes of the elastomer material deflectable into the flow channel to provide pump or valve functionality.

  • Patent number: 7260331
Abstract: To demultiplex a low-speed optical pulse signal from a high-speed optical pulse signal, an optical clock generator generates an optical clock of a control wavelength ?p at a predetermined frequency out of a pulse signal light of a signal wavelength ?s. On one side of a saturable absorber, an optical band reflection mirror is disposed to reflect a light of the signal wavelength ?s and to transmit a light of the control wavelength ?p. A pulse signal light of the signal wavelength ?s reciprocates in the saturable absorber. An optical pulse of the pulse signal light of the signal wavelength ?s enters the saturable absorber almost simultaneously with different optical pulses of the optical clock on the ways of going and returning. The saturable absorber has a transmission factor relative to the signal wavelength ?s. The transmission factor varies as the saturable absorber absorbs a light of the control wavelength ?p.

  • Patent number: 7260360
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a multi-band ZigBee transceiver for supporting IEEE 802.15.4 wireless communications. In the multi-band ZigBee transceiver, a Multi-Mode Modem (MMM) selects any one of a European version standard using 860 MHz band, a US version standard using 920 MHz band, and a worldwide version standard using 2.4 GHz ISM band among IEEE 802.15.4 standards. A frequency synthesizing unit variably adjusts a carrier frequency according to the transmission standard. A transmission unit receives a digital modulated signal, low-pass-filters the digital modulated signal with a bandwidth thereof being variably adjusted, and up-converts the filtered digital modulated signal into an RF modulated signal corresponding to the selected transmission channel.

  • Patent number: 7260222
Abstract: Each of a transmitter (1) and a receiver (2) divides temporarily-shared data into one or more purification blocks and one or more disposable blocks, and mixes each purification block so as to enlarge a Hamming distance between corresponding purification blocks being held by the transmitter (1) and the receiver (2) by using a Hamming distance amplification effect. The transmitter (1) Vernam-encrypts the mixed data with the disposable data and transmits the mixed data to the receiver (2), and the receiver (2) decrypts the received Vernam-encrypted data by using a disposable block owned thereby, and compares the Hamming distance between the purification block owned thereby with the mixed data with a predetermined value so as to judge whether each purification block can be shared between the transmitter (1) and the receiver (2).

  • Patent number: 7260544
Abstract: Of the “four C's,” cut has historically been the most complex to understand and assess. This application presents a three-dimensional mathematical model to study the interaction of light with a fully faceted, colorless, symmetrical round-brilliant-cut diamond. With this model, one can analyze how various appearance factors (brilliance, fire, and scintillation) depend on proportions. The model generates images and a numerical measurement of the optical efficiency of the round brilliant—called DCLR—which approximates overall fire. DCLR values change with variations in cut proportions, in particular crown angle, pavilion angle, table size, star facet length, culet size, and lower girdle facet length. The invention describes many combinations of proportions with equal or higher DCLR than “Ideal” cuts, and these DCLR ratings may be balanced with other factors such as brilliance and scintillation to provide a cut grade for an existing diamond or a cut analysis for prospective cut of diamond rough.
