  • Patent number: 11536165
Abstract: A hydraulic lash assembly (HLA) for use in a valvetrain. The HLA preferably includes a first arm configured to transition a valve between a closed orientation and an open orientation. The first arm can include an engagement surface to receive a driving force from a timing member and to cause the valve to transition to the open orientation for a predetermined period. The HLA further preferably includes a second arm to receive a holding force from an actuator and a pivot section to couple to the first arm and displace the first arm based on the holding force from the actuator. Preferably, the first arm and the second arm form a lever arrangement whereby the pivot section of the second arm underlies and supports the first arm and allows for rotational movement of the first arm that is independent from the second arm.

  • Patent number: 11536731
Abstract: Methods and systems directed to monitoring for the presence or progression of amyloid diseases via detection of amyloid fibrils in a sample from an individual are disclosed. An individual, or sample from an individual, is treated with a reagent including a fluorescent protein. The fluorescent protein in the reagent binds to amyloid fibrils present in the sample. Detecting a signal from fluorescent protein bound to the treated sample indicates the presence of amyloid fibrils in the sample and possible diagnosis of an amyloid disease. The presence and progression of an amyloid disease is monitored by quantifying signal intensity from samples taken over time. Treatment with a reagent including a fluorescent protein inhibits amyloid fibril formation by providing the reagent to an environment including amyloid monomers. The fluorescent protein binds to amyloid oligomers during the lag phase and/or elongation phase of amyloid fibril formation, preventing formation of mature amyloid fibrils.

  • Patent number: 11536520
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of enhancing heat transfer of metallic surfaces by (1) fabricating hierarchical micro-nanostructured surfaces using etching processes, and (2) fabricating hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions, using a printing or a coating technique, followed by etching. The said method enhances the density of condensation sites over a metallic surface and additionally facilitates the departure of condensed droplets from the surface. Such a surface also enhances the sensible heat transfer characteristics, and improves the coefficient of performance (COP) of refrigeration systems for applications like atmospheric water generators, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, etc.
