  • Patent number: 8226449
Abstract: A new Rhenium alloy usable for improving the performance of emission filaments used in mass spectrometers or other similar scientific instruments, which is made by adding low level concentrations of Yttrium Oxide to Rhenium of less than 10%. This new alloy has demonstrated superior performance characteristics compared to pure Rhenium for this purpose. Filaments made from the Yttria/Rhenium alloy exhibit the same voltage, current and emission properties as Rhenium but have the added advantage of greatly decreasing warping during use. The Rhenium alloy filaments are usable with various shapes and configurations including straight filaments, multiple coiled filaments and pin shaped filaments. Electron microscopy and microscopy studies verify that the Yttria/Rhenium material of the new alloy has a smaller grain size and increased strength when compared to pure Rhenium, which accounts for the enhanced structural strength.

  • Publication number: 20050089450
Abstract: A pipette has a pipette tip mounting shaft having multiple sealing zones, with each sealing zone abutting a stop, which prevents a pipette tip from being placed on the shaft with excessive force. As a result, differently sized pipette tips, can be sealingly engaged on the shaft, and each can be ejected with a minimal amount of force.

  • Patent number: 5596876
Abstract: A cryogenic trap apparatus for cooling is disclosed as well as heating of a capillary column in order to analyze the volatile components of any volatile or semi-volatile compound passing through the capillary column. The cryogenic trap is restricted to treatment of one inch or less in length of the capillary column in order to achieve miniaturization of the design. A cylindrically shaped main cryogenic chamber with a volume of less than 0.5 cubic inches is adapted to receive the capillary column extending axially therethrough and includes a cooling fluid inlet and a cooling fluid outlet as well as a heating apparatus for achieving rapid cooling and thereafter rapid heating of the components in the capillary column for trapping and segregating individual components thereof for chromatographic analysis.

  • Patent number: 5320810
Abstract: An adjustable hand-held pump adapted to measure microliter quantities of liquids includes a frame having a handle with a cylindrical opening formed therein. A threaded shaft is disposed and slidable within the cylindrical opening. A volume adjustment wheel is rotatably disposed within the frame at a stationary axial position and mechanically engages the threaded shaft to position the threaded shaft at a predetermined axial position within the cylindrical opening, thereby providing liquid volume adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4091791
Abstract: A ball throwing machine having a flat, circular resilient disc with an off-center opening formed therein through which a ball to be thrown is forced at a predetermined velocity. By properly positioning the flat circular resilient disc, having the off-center opening formed therein, a thrown ball can be made to spin about any axis perpendicular to the ball trajectory. A tubular barrel is mounted adjacent to the resilient disc so that as a ball is forced from the throwing machine it is forced through the opening in the resilient disc and into and out of the barrel. The barrel, which is positionable, permits the ball ejected from the throwing machine to be accurately aimed in any desired direction. A firing chamber is located adjacent the resilient disc on the side opposite the barrel. Balls to be thrown are fed into the firing chamber by a ball feeder.

  • Patent number: 4045788
Abstract: A portable self-contained scoreboard adaptable for use with a variety of different sports. The self-contained scoreboard has a plurality of variable numeral displays. Some of the numeral displays are constructed to function as a controllable clock which can count up or count down. The clock numerals can also be manually controlled to be used to indicate other desired information. A plurality of descriptive placards are provided with the self-contained portable scoreboard. The placards are constructed to be attachable to the face of the scoreboard. Selected placards can be attached to the scoreboard to render the scoreboard face applicable for scoring a variety of sports. The numeral and indicator light controls are then selected to be in accordance with the placard modified scoreboard face for use with the desired sport. This permits the scoreboard to be adaptable for use with a wide variety of sporting events. A pair of indicating timers adapted for use with the scoreboard can also be provided.
