  • Patent number: 4909280
Abstract: A fastener for closing and sealing pipe ends subjected to internal pressure is applicable for testing plastic pipe for internal pressure resistance. Testing is carried out in apparatuses in which a pipe section is filled with water and then pressure is applied, its value corresponding with desired tension in the pipe wall. In the fastener of the invention forces exerting clamping pressure of fastener elements on pipe ends are derived from internal pressure within the pipe, allowing for disengagement of external supply during hours of testing on the one hand, and on the other hand ensuing proper proportion between this pressure and the forces clamping the fastener elements on pipe end.

  • Patent number: 4838075
Abstract: Subject of the invention is a method and a fastener for closing and sealing ends of pipes subjected to internal pressure, e.g. of plastics pipes tested on internal pressure in suitable apparatus in which a piece of pipe is filled with water with a temperature of about 150.degree. C., and subsequently increased pressure corresponding to required stresses in the pipe wall is established. The method of fixing the fasteners as well as the fasteners themselves should make possible an easy and simple putting them and reliable fixing on the ends of pipes tested as well as their certain sealing. The method according to the invention is characterized by the fact that the fastener elements are clamped on pipe ends by a hydraulic or a pneumatic force. It is profitable if this force stems from the pressure of medium filling the pipe during a test.

  • Patent number: 4424299
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for manufacturing unsaturated polyester resins with suppressed volatilization of monomer, useful in the manufacture of laminates, moulding compounds, varnish coatings and castings. It is known a process for manufacturing unsaturated polyester resins by dissolving unsaturated polyesters in monomers with the addition of paraffin, waxes, ceresin wax, emulsifiers forming emulsions of the "water-in-oil" or "oil-in-water" type. These additives suppress the volatilization of monomers, but they exhibit a limited solubility in the resin and a majority of them separate on the surface during curing of the polyester resin and, thus, reduce the adhesion capacity of the subsequent layers of resin or laminates to the previously cured substrate. It has been found that unsaturated polyester resins with suppressed volatilization of monomer can be prepared by dissolving the unsaturated polyester in the monomer and by introducing 0.005-5.
