Patent number: 7167616Abstract: The present invention is a wavelength-selective optical transmission system that includes a first waveguide for transmitting a multiplexed optical signal therethrough. The system further includes a second waveguide coupled to the first waveguide wherein a least one of the first and second waveguides have a set of wavelength-selective Bragg gratings disposed near a coupling section between the first and second waveguides to reflect a reflecting optical signal back to the first waveguide and for transmitting a contra-directional optical signal and a co-directional optical signal having respectively a contra-directional selected wavelength and a co-directional selected wavelength corresponding to the Bragg gratings. One of the contra-directional and co-directional wavelengths is chosen as a designated wavelength, and the reflecting optical signal and one of the contra-directional or co-directional optical signals are outside of a predefined range surrounding the designated wavelength.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2004Date of Patent: January 23, 2007Assignee: Integrated Optics Communications Corp.Inventors: Peiching Ling, Wayne Lui, Jinliang Chen, Jianjun Zhang, Ming Xu, Yu Chen

Publication number: 20040071427Abstract: Electrically activated, wavelength-selective optical switches, a tunable wavelength selector, and a wavelength-tunable light modulator. In one preferred embodiment, an electrically activated, wavelength-selective optical switch comprises on a common substrate a first waveguide, a second waveguide comprising an electro-optic material, a set of Bragg gratings, and a means for generating an electrical field across the second waveguide. When the electrical field is applied, the refractive index of the electro-optic material and the Bragg phase-matching condition of the Bragg gratings are changed, causing one of the multiplexed input optical signals in the first waveguide to be guided by mode coupling into the second waveguide.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 9, 2003Publication date: April 15, 2004Applicant: Integrated Optics Communication Corp.Inventors: Peiching Ling, Jianjun Zhang, Jianliang Chen, Ming Xu

Publication number: 20030086639Abstract: The present invention is a “bi-directional” high-density optical switch, which allows for size reduction of the optical switching matrix and the optical switching matrix package. Interlacing input and output channels and plurality of waveguides and 4 types of switching cells enable this high density optical switch to alternate the placement of the fiber guides on either side of the matrix substrate, leading to a significant overall reduction in the dimensions of the optical switching matrix.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 7, 2002Publication date: May 8, 2003Applicant: Integrated Optics Communications Corp.Inventors: Peiching Ling, Jianjun Zhang, Jinliang Chen, Ming Xu, Lisa Tong
