  • Patent number: 8446490
Abstract: A digital video capture system for capturing a digital video sequence and for producing a corresponding video summary, comprising: an image sensor; an optical system; a processor, a softcopy display and a means for providing a user with an option to view either a stored digital video sequence or a video summary on the softcopy display. The processor performs the steps of: capturing a digital video sequence; automatically analyzing the digital video sequence at the time the digital video sequence is captured to determine one or more feature values; compressing the digital video sequence; storing the compressed digital video sequence; automatically analyzing the feature values to identify one or more key video snippets, assembling the key video snippets to form a video summary; and storing a representation of the video summary.

  • Patent number: 8446514
Abstract: A method for capturing an image, comprising: providing a switchable imaging apparatus including a display screen having a first display state and a second transparent state, an optical beam deflector switchable between a first non-deflecting state and a second deflecting state, a camera positioned in a location peripheral to the display screen, and a controller; setting the switchable imaging apparatus to the image capture mode by using the controller to set the display screen to the second transparent state and the optical beam deflector to the second deflecting state; using the camera to capture an image of the scene; setting the switchable imaging apparatus to the image display mode by using the controller to set the display screen to the first display state and the optical beam deflector to the first non-deflecting state; and displaying an image on the display screen.

  • Patent number: 8436912
Abstract: A method of using an image capture device to identify range information for objects in a scene includes providing an image capture device having an image sensor, at least two coded apertures, and a lens; storing in a memory a set of blur parameters derived from range calibration data for each coded aperture; capturing images of the scene having a plurality of objects using each of the coded apertures; providing a set of deblurred images using the captured images from each coded aperture and each of the blur parameters from the stored set; and using the set of deblurred images to determine the range information for the objects in the scene.

  • Patent number: 8432965
Abstract: A method for forming a video summary for a digital video sequence. The method includes capturing a digital video sequence with a digital video capture device, wherein the digital video sequence includes a plurality of video frames. At least one of the video frames in the digital video sequence is analyzed at the time the digital video sequence is captured to determine one or more feature values. The digital video sequence; is compressed and stored in a processor-accessible memory. The feature values are analyzed, without decompressing the stored compressed digital video sequence, to identify one or more key video snippets, each key video snippet corresponding to a set of video frames from the digital video sequence. The key video snippets are assembled to form a video summary which is stored in a processor-accessible memory.

  • Patent number: 8422794
Abstract: A system for automatically selecting a template and a number of secondary images for display with a primary preselected image based on analyzing the primary image's attribute information and comparing the template's required image attributes and secondary image's attribute information. The attribute information is used to evaluate and arithmetically score a compatibility of the images and template so that a best compatibility fit can be obtained when displaying the image.

  • Patent number: 8406460
Abstract: A method for producing an image template having one or more openings for displaying images. The openings as well as the images are each associated with a season. The images are automatically analyzed to determine which season they most likely depict. Images are then selected to be placed in a template opening designated for a particular season. This method can be used to automate calendar production.

  • Patent number: 8406461
Abstract: A computer system having a processor and a memory for generating and storing a list of elements that are searched for in digital images. Occurrences of the elements in the images are indicative of a calendar season and, optionally, with a calendar month or another kind of season. The elements include weight values for indicating how strongly the element is associated with a season. The computer system automatically calculates a season determination value for each of the digital images and automatically selects images for use in a seasonal image product.

  • Patent number: 8407225
Abstract: A method of accessing an image database containing location data and determining one or more clusters of the digital images based on their location data. A hotspot location is determined for representing the cluster of the digital images and the results are stored for later access. The computer is connected to a network and receives data from a device including data identifying a current location. After determining that the device is within a selected notification distance from the hotspot location, a notification is transmitted over the network.
