  • Patent number: 9956010
Abstract: An orthopedic fixation device comprising a bearing and a retaining portion. The bearing defines a bearing internal bore and has a rounded exterior surface, an upper surface, an intermediate surface, and a lower surface, and at least one slot in the bearing extending from the exterior surface to the internal bore. The retaining portion defines a recess shaped to accept the exterior surface of the bearing therein such that in a steady state of the bearing, the bearing can move within the recess, and, when at least one force is imparted against one of the upper and lower surfaces of the bearing, the bearing deforms outwardly to fix the bearing in place within the recess.

  • Patent number: 9526531
Abstract: A spinal fixation device includes a bone screw, a nut, a bearing, a slider, and a plate construct. The screw has a head with a nut connection and a screw portion. The nut has an exterior wall and a bore connecting to the nut connection. The bearing has an exterior and defines a bore fitting therein the nut connection and the exterior wall of the nut. The slider defines a bore fitting the nut exterior wall therewithin and has an exterior with a given shape. The elongate plate construct has a first end defining a first opening shaped to accept the exterior of the bearing therein and a second end defining a second opening shaped to accept the slider therein and having a corresponding shape to the given shape to permit the slider to slide in at least a portion of the second opening.

  • Patent number: 9456851
Abstract: A screw and rod fixation assembly includes a body member including a screw seat for seating a screw head therein and a rod seat for seating a rod therein. An adjustable locking ring applies a locking force against the screw head seated in the screw seat and a locking cap adjustably applies a locking force against a rod seated in the rod seat. The adjustable screw locking ring and locking cap function independent of each other. A method of fixing the rod to the screw includes the steps of inserting a screw head into a screw seat in one end of a body member and inserting a rod into a rod seat in a second end of a body member and selectively and independently adjusting a locking force on both the screw head and the rod within the screw seat and rod seat, respectively.

  • Patent number: 8585705
Abstract: An instrument for assisting in guiding a spinal connector or rod through one or more spinal implants placed in the spine includes a main assembly having the ability to accurately guide a rod through the implants by way of rotation and translation. By introducing the rod via rotation, the tip of the rod can be located very accurately deep in soft tissue for percutaneous applications. Once inside the first implant, the rod tip can be advanced by translation and rotation to the next implant. The number of implants connected in this manner is only limited to the length and curvature of the rod introduced. However, an advantage to the instrument is the ability to handle multiple length rods of different curvatures by adjustments to the instrument.

  • Publication number: 20130268078
Abstract: The present invention is a load sharing intervertebral fusion device that allows for reconstruction of the proper disc space between two vertebral bodies while allowing bone material packed within the fusion device to share loading and stress for enhanced healing. The device includes two sections, an upper and lower section, separated by a bioresorbable spacer. The upper section slides relative to the lower section with the bioresorbable material being placed in load therebetween. The upper section and lower sections are effectively held apart, creating an initial fixed spacer for implantation of the intervertebral disc space. Openings in the implant construct allow for bone graft and bone substitutes to be placed within the implant to allow for fusion through the implant construct. After implantation and over a period of time based on bone resorbtion and remodeling, the spacer resorbs, thereby maintaining load on the bone graft material.
