Patents Assigned to INTELLIJOINT SURGICAL INC.
  • Patent number: 9713506
Abstract: Systems, methods and devices are disclosed for use in electronic guidance systems for surgical navigation to determine the relationship between the three-dimensional coordinates of an anatomy of a patient and those of medical image data. These coordinates are required to assist in the determination of the surgical measurements with respect to which components, such as, an acetabular prosthesis, are inserted into a body of the patient. In one such example, during hip replacement surgery, a surgeon receives guidance of how to place an acetabular prosthesis in the body of the patient, specifically in the pelvis with respect to medical image data.

Abstract: Systems, methods and devices are disclosed for use in electronic guidance systems for surgical navigation to determine the relationship between the three-dimensional coordinates of an anatomy of a patient and those of an electronic guidance system. These coordinates are required to assist in the determination of the angles with respect to which components, such as, an acetabular prosthesis, are inserted into a body of the patient. In one such example, during hip replacement surgery, a surgeon receives guidance of how to place an acetabular prosthesis in the body of the patient, specifically in the pelvis.

  • Patent number: 9314188
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to computer-assisted joint replacement surgery, and corresponding navigation systems. The systems and methods presented find particular use in performing hip replacement surgery. For example, in one embodiment, there is provided a system and method for: (a) measuring a pre-dislocation positional relationship between a patient's pelvis and the patient's femur; (b) performing a post-dislocation femoral registration of the femur; (c) tracking the position of the femur relative to the pelvis during a reduction procedure; (d) calculating a change in leg length and a change in offset, after the reduction procedure, based on the femoral registration and the pre-dislocation positional relationship between the pelvis and the femur; and (e) conveying the change in leg length and the change in offset.

  • Patent number: 9247998
Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products are disclosed for medical navigational guidance systems. In one example, intra-operative leg position measurements are provided during hip arthroplasty. An optical sensor couples to a pelvis and a target couples to a femur in alignment with the sensor, which provides positional signals to a processing unit for determining a relative position of the sensor and target. The processing unit uses a baseline measurement of leg position and a map to calculate and display position measurements in real time. The map is defined through a registration range-of-motion procedure where instructions are presented to move the femur in at least two planes to generate signals to calculate the map. Leg position may be leg length, offset or anterior/posterior position. The map is used to present the leg position measurements in an anatomical, rather than a sensor, coordinate frame.

  • Patent number: 9168103
Abstract: Systems, methods and a sensor alignment mechanism are disclosed for medical navigational guidance systems. In one example, a system to make sterile a non-sterile optical sensor for use in navigational guidance during surgery includes a sterile drape having an optically transparent window to drape the optical sensor in a sterile barrier and a sensor alignment mechanism. The alignment mechanism secures the sensor through the drape in alignment with the window without breaching the sterile barrier and facilitates adjustment of the orientation of the optical sensor. The optical sensor may be aligned to view a surgical site when the alignment mechanism, assembled with the sterile drape and optical sensor, is attached to a bone. The alignment mechanism may be a lockable ball joint and facilitate orientation of the sensor in at least two degrees of freedom. A quick connect mechanism may couple the alignment mechanism to the bone.

  • Patent number: 9138319
Abstract: Presented are methods and systems for determining, monitoring, and displaying the relative positioning of two rigid bodies during surgery. In particular, the present disclosure relates to methods and systems for positioning a prosthesis relative to a bone during a surgery as well as to systems and methods for verifying resulting relative positioning of adjacent bones.
