  • Patent number: 11792661
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for increasing bandwidth efficiency in satellite communications. In some embodiments, a satellite communications method is provided that comprises receiving, at a satellite and from a plurality of user ground terminals, a plurality of source signals, wherein each of the source signals are modulated according to at least one source modulation method, and further receiving, at a satellite and from a plurality of user ground terminals, a plurality of information signals corresponding to the plurality of source signals. The method further includes combining, at the satellite, the plurality of source signals into a combined source signal with an overlapping bandwidth, wherein each of the source signals are further modulated according to at least one predetermined modulation method before they are combined, and transmitting, by a downlink transmission from the satellite to a gateway ground station, the combined source signal.

  • Publication number: 20230074963
Abstract: A satellite terminal satellite exchanges data with a 5G core network of a cellular wireless network by obtaining an internet protocol (IP) address using a router or switch and a gateway. The IP address is obtained using dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP). The router or switch and the gateway are positioned between a satellite teleport and the core network. The data is sent as packets with the IP address being the source address of the satellite terminal. As such, a legacy satellite terminal, with addition of a DHCP client, is able to access services of the 5G core network.

  • Patent number: 10917165
Abstract: A base station is provided. The base station includes a base band unit and one or more remote radio heads, a satellite-based content delivery network (S-CDN) device, and a local serving gateway (LS-GW). The base station unit and the one or more remote radio heads wirelessly communicate with a user equipment. The S-CDN device receives and caches content from a satellite-based content delivery network. The LS-GW is connected to the S-CDN device and the base band unit. The LS-GW receives a request for content from the user equipment, determines whether the content is already stored in the S-CDN device, and when the content is already stored in the S-CDN device, delivers the content to the user equipment from the S-CDN device.
