Abstract: A high-temperature fuel cell includes two chambers to be acted upon by a reaction gas. A partition is formed of an oxygen-conducting ceramic material with a given coefficient of thermal expansion. The partition separates the chambers from one another and defines outer walls of the chambers opposite the partition and side walls of the chambers contacting the partition. Electrodes are each disposed at a respective side of the partition. The outer walls are formed of a soft metal sheet having at least one corrugation for compensation of expansion and the side walls are formed of a material with the given coefficient of thermal expansion. A high-temperature fuel cell stack may include a plurality of series-connected high-temperature fuel cells.
Abstract: A mounting assembly for an exhaust gas catalyst includes a metallic exhaust gas catalyst carrier body and a tubular jacket in which the catalyst carrier body is disposed. The catalyst carrier body is fastened to the tubular jacket while permitting lengthwise expansion of the catalyst carrier body, through the use of beads encircling at least part of the catalyst carrier body and corresponding formations formed in the tubular jacket into which the beads protrude in the form of slots and keys. The catalyst carrier body and the beads are disposed at axial and radial distances from the tubular jacket and the formations.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for uniting workpieces of silicon-infiltrated silicon carbide with large dimensions includes surrounding each of two silicon-infiltrated silicon carbide workpieces with at least one tightly closing shell in the vicinity of a junction between the workpieces, defining at least one intermediate space between the shell and the workpieces. A vacuum or an inert gas atmosphere is maintained in the intermediate space or spaces. Solder is placed at the junction and the junction is locally heated to soldering temperature for materially bonding the workpieces by soldering at the junction.
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the flow rate of electrically conductive liquids includes two coils disposed in succession as seen in the flow direction of a liquid. The coils are switched in alternation as a primary and a secondary coil. One of the coils is excited with an alternating current as the primary coil, and voltage induced by the excitation in the other of the coils as the secondary coil is measured.
Abstract: A catalyst carrier body and a method for producing the same, includes layers of textured curved metal sheets through which a fluid can flow, a jacket in which the curved metal sheets are disposed, and at least one supporting wall disposed in and firmly joined to the jacket forming a supporting structure for the body, the curved metal sheets being individually secured to the supporting walls for absorbing radial expansions of the supporting structure through changes in the curvature of the sheets.
Abstract: The process is of special interest to refinieries in the neighborhood of existing oilfields. The crude oil additionally released in the known manner by the introduction of hot water or steam contains also a so-called petroleum gas consisting largely of methane as well as other combustible gases. According to the invention, this gas is converted in hydrogen using a cracking oven heated by a high-temperature reactor, with steam being produced by the heat released by the cracking oven.
