  • Patent number: 6963546
Abstract: A time division duplex communication system using code division multiple access transmits a plurality of data signals over a shared spectrum in a time slot. A combined signal is received over the shared spectrum in the time slot. The plurality of data signals are grouped into a plurality of groups. The combined signal is matched filtered based on in part symbol responses associated with the data signals of one of the groups. Data from each data signal in the one group is jointly detected. An interference signal is constructed based on in part the one group detected data. The constructed interference signal is subtracted from the combined signal. Data from the other groups is detected by processing the subtracted signal.

  • Patent number: 6961398
Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for time synchronizing a plurality of base stations in a wireless communication system. The system determines an estimate of a timing accuracy associated with each base station. When a base stations's timing accuracy is over a threshold, the system determines if there is a neighboring base station with a better timing accuracy. The base station over the threshold is adjusted in response to an estimated difference between that base station and the neighboring base station.

  • Patent number: 6950411
Abstract: A mobile user receiver having a cancellation system for removing selected signals from a traffic signal prior to decoding includes a receiver having a system input for receiving communication signals from a transmitter over an air interface. The system input is supplied to a traffic signal cancellation system for canceling unwanted traffic signals. The system input is also supplied to a pilot signal cancellation system for removing a global pilot signal. The output of the pilot signal cancellation system is subtracted from the output of the traffic signal cancellation system to provide a cancellation system output free from unwanted traffic signals and the global pilot signal.

  • Patent number: 5748687
Abstract: Methods for generating code sequences that have rapid acquisition properties and apparatus which implement the methods by processing spreading codes on in-phase and quadrature channels. A first method combines two or more short codes to produce a long code. This method may use many types of code sequences, one or more of which are rapid acquisition sequences of length L that have average acquisition phase searches r=log2L. Two or more separate code sequences are transmitted over the complex channels. If the sequences have different phases, an acquisition may be done by acquisition circuits in parallel over the different code sequences when the relative phase shift between the two or more code channels is known. When the received length L codes or the length L correlation codes used to find the phase of the received codes have a mutual phase delay of L/2, the average number of tests to find the code phase of the received code is L/4.

  • Patent number: 5633889
Abstract: A phased array spread spectrum system for maximizing signal strength of a spread-spectrum signal with multipath through the use of receiving means, delaying means, combining means, despreading means, generating means, storing means and comparing means. The receiving means receives a plurality of spread-spectrum signals and a plurality of phased versions of the plurality of spread-spectrum signals. The delaying means delays the received plurality of spread-spectrum signals with respect to the plurality of phased versions of the plurality of spread-spectrum signals by a plurality of delays. The combining means combines the delayed spread-spectrum signals and the plurality of phased versions of the plurality of spread-spectrum signals as a plurality of combined signals. The despreading means despreads the plurality of combined signals as a plurality of despread signals. The generating means generates a plurality of magnitude values from the plurality of despread signals.

  • Patent number: 5442652
Abstract: A communication system in accordance with the invention employs a broadcast signal for synchronization of the transmitters and receivers in the system without use of a special base transmitter for synchronizing signal transmissions. Each transmitter having a pre-assigned time slot counts from a synchronizing index which is inherent in or added to the broadcast signal to determine when to transmit. The receiver of receivers similarly count from the synchronizing index to determine when to look for specific time slice transmissions.
