Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving an IP-based message, by a first UE over a WLAN, is provided. Abstract: A method and apparatus for synchronization in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) network is disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is configured to receive a primary synchronization signal and a secondary synchronization signal from a cell. The primary synchronization signal and the secondary synchronization signal are spaced by a known number of OFDM symbols. The primary synchronization signal and the secondary synchronization signal are received in a same number of subcarriers in their respective OFDM symbol. A location of at least the secondary synchronization signal in the system bandwidth is variable.

Abstract: A wireless communication system includes an infrastructure device for transmitting and receiving communications to and from a plurality of wireless user terminals. Each wireless user terminal includes a receiver and a controller configured to receive a plurality of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals on at least one downlink carrier frequency. Each of the plurality of OFDM signals includes assignment information. The receiver is configured to receive a plurality of downlink signals each responsive to a respective OFDM signal of the plurality of OFDM signals such that each downlink signal is received on a downlink carrier frequency and using a downlink spatial pattern. Further, the controller is configured to dynamically change the downlink carrier frequency of the receiver for receiving the plurality of downlink signals based on the plurality of OFDM signals, wherein the plurality of downlink signals have different spatial patterns.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving a packet via high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) are disclosed. At least one HSDPA medium access control (MAC-hs) service data unit (SDU) is segmented into a plurality of segments. MAC-hs protocol data units (PDUs) are generated from the segments wherein each MAC-hs PDU includes at least one segment. Each MAC-hs PDU may include one segment from a single MAC-hs SDU. The size of the segments may match to the size of the MAC-hs PDUs minus the size of the header of the MAC-hs PDU. The sizes of the segments may be determined based on the number of segments to which the MAC-hs SDU is segmented. Alternatively, each MAC-hs PDU may include a combination of segments from a plurality of MAC-hs SDUs or a combination of at least one segment from one MAC-hs SDU and at least one entire MAC-hs SDU.

Abstract: A method and system for the UE and RNC to reduce transmission latency and potentially prevent loss of PDUs upon a MAC-hs layer reset. The RNC generates a radio resource control (RRC) message with a MAC-hs reset indication. Abstract: A method and apparatus for selecting multiple transport formats and transmitting multiple transport blocks (TBs) in a transmission time interval simultaneously with multiple hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) processes in a wireless communication system are disclosed. Available physical resources and H-ARQ processes associated with the available physical resources are identified and channel quality of each of the available physical resources is determined. Quality of service (QoS) requirements of higher layer data to be transmitted are determined. The higher layer data is mapped to at least two H-ARQ processes. Physical transmission and H-ARQ configurations to support QoS requirements of the higher layer data mapped to each H-ARQ process are determined. TBs are generated from the mapped higher layer data in accordance with the physical transmission and H-ARQ configurations of each H-ARQ process, respectively. The TBs are transmitted via the H-ARQ processes simultaneously.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for operation by a base station are provided. The base station may be configured to receive a request for attachment from a WTRU and transmit and receive authentication messages between the WTRU and a cellular core network including an HLR. A registration request may be received from the WTRU via SIP, the registration request indicating a capability of the WTRU to receive SMS messages via an IMS. Abstract: A multiple wireless access technology capable (WAT-capable) wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) includes a registration message generator configured to generate a registration message indicating that the WTRU is configured to communicate using an IEEE 802.11x technology. The WTRU also includes a transmitter configured to send the registration message via an IEEE 802.11x WLAN to a cellular network during registration with the cellular network, and a receiver configured to receive services from the cellular network via the WLAN. Abstract: A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may process logical channel data from a logical channel and determine that a type of trigger has occurred for the logical channel based on higher layer signaling. In response to the type of trigger, the WTRU may transmit a predetermined sequence over an uplink control channel in a transmission time interval (TTI).
Abstract: A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may periodically transmit control information in slots. The control information may include channel quality indicators (CQIs) for a plurality of cells. In response to expiration of a timer for a first cell of the plurality of cells or in response to a received layer 2 (L2) message associated with the first cell, the transmission of the control information including the CQIs may be ceased for the first cell and the periodic transmission of the control information may continue for a second cell of the plurality of cells.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed relating to ciphering and de-ciphering of packet units in wireless devices during retransmission in wireless communications.
